Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations (ANA). Nursing is an essential part of society that exists for people that are in need of help and care either because of (due to) physical illness or mental illness. A warm, clean, hazard free, and soothing environment can make the patient feel more at ease and relaxed therefore promoting healing. In the future, I am hoping nursing will be valued more as it should be. I also believe nursing will further continue to exceed to a more holistic career. As a nurse my biggest challenge will probably be ensuring the patient is satisfied. Making sure emotions do not take over is another huge challenge I have heard about through other nurses and nursing students. Nursing care can make a difference in a patient’s life, which is why so many people see it as rewarding. Decision-making skills and clinical skills are both important factors in nursing, which I hope to develop and improve as my nursing knowledge evolves.
