Samsung electronics is the world’s largest technology company in terms of revenues. It is a global market leader in high-tech electronic manufacturing and digital media. Samsung is the largest mobile phone maker and television manufacturer and second largest semiconductor chip producer. The company is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, and currently employs approximately a quarter-million people worldwide (Samsung, 2014). Samsung Telecommunication is one of the five divisions that make up the Samsung group. These divisions consist of the Telecommunication Systems, Computer, MP3 Business Team, Mobile Solutions, and Telecommunication Research and Development Center (Samsung, 2014).
In 2007, Samsung Telecommunication Business reported over 40% growth and became the second largest mobile device manufacturer in the world (Ziegler, 2013). By November 2011, Samsung had reportedly sold more than 300 million mobile devices, only beaten out in the market by Nokia with an estimated 300.6 million mobile devices sold. Currently, Samsung is the largest manufacturer of devices running the Google android platform with more than 46% of the market share.
Recommended Changes
According to the textbook provided for this course, organizational structure refers to how jobs are arranged in an organization or business (Robbins & Coulter, 2012). Looking at the current organizational chart of Samsung telecommunication, along with their continued success, there is no doubt that their organizational structure is working. However, some changes might be justified in order to allow the company to continue its upward climb in the market and not become complacent. These areas of possible change are best found by using the most recent SWOT analysis conducted by the company to identify areas of action that could help the company achieve not only the number one
