The first reason why I think the similarities are greater than differences is social position. The reason why I think social position is because; “The life of a samurai was not his own but belonged entirely to his lord, and it was the duty of a (samurai) to consider this at all times….”. [Doc B]This
means that they are connected to their lord. The decision of the knights as well a samurai is made by their lords.
The second reason why I think the similarities are greater than the differences is because of training and armor. “(At about age 14 the trainees officially became a samurai in a ceremony called genpuku)” [Doc C] “(B)y the age of 14, pages were eligible [to become] a squire.” These 2 quotes show how both start at a really young age of 14.
The third reason why I think the similarities are greater than the differences is because of honor and death. For samurai: death meant nothing. “One day you are born you die the next- today, at twilight autumn breezes blow.” On the other hand, for Knights death is very important. They really care about going to heaven and do their best to clear their sins. “‘God, I acknowledge my guilt and I beg for Thy mercy for all the sins, greater and lesser, which I have committed from the hour of my birth until this day when I lie here overcome by death!’”
Samurai and knights were more similar than different in 3 broad areas; social position, training and armor, and honor and death. Another reason why I think they’re similar is because they are very honorable.
