to see what sort of cutting edge products they have, and how those services can integrate into our daily lives.” If there is more of an emphasis on STEM, it will increase the ability of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to shape our everyday experiences.
Another one of the most discussed topics in this area, the drought that the San Gabriel Valley, along with the rest of California, has endured for the past four years has compelled most Southern Californians to regulate their water use. Many other solutions to this problem include desalination, fog catchers, and groundwater drilling. When I asked Ms. Chang what could be a potential solution to the water crisis that she means to propose to the State Assembly, she replied, “We need to improve our access to water, especially since we’re in a drought.”
An additional problem to which legislators and law enforcement are trying to find a solution to is property crime.
In just the city of San Gabriel, there have been 555 cases of property theft over the past year. This includes larceny, grand theft auto, arson, and burglaries. The rising number of property theft has many residents of the San Gabriel Valley worried. Many have invested in personal cameras and security systems. There are also other options to prevent property theft which do not involve spending a great deal of money. According to Ms. Chang, “We need to work with our law enforcement agencies like the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to ensure our community is engaged and aware of their surroundings. Neighborhood Watch, DARE, and other programs allow our neighborhoods to interact with officers on a regular basis, which will result in safer communities.” These issues are only some of the top local news in the San Gabriel Valley. As one of the principal valleys of Southern California, the San Gabriel Valley certainly has much to
offer.
