Santa Claus: Victorian Father Christmas
Many people are unaware of what Santa Claus originally looked like. His clothing has changed tremendously over the years. He has gone through a St. Nicholas stage, a Victorian Father Christmas stage, and he is currently in the modern stage. Santa clause originated from St. Nicholas. He looked similar to a priest. He was pictured dressed in a long red cloak that swept the ground with his white robe underneath and a tall white, red, and gold hat. He sported a long, luscious white beard and carried a gold staff. Next there is the Victorian Father Christmas. People interpreted his clothing slightly different. He wore colorful luxurious robes that varied from blue to green to purple. His garment underneath the robe was red with intricate detailing at the bottom. He carried sacks of toys for the local children and wore colorful hats. He kept his long white beard but swapped his gold staff for a more logical wooden cane. …show more content…

He wears a matching red coat and pants with thick lining of fur on the hems. He keeps his coat tied with a thick black leather belt and sturdy black boots to keep the cold chill off his feet. He swapped out his variously colored hat with a red hat to match the rest of his ensemble. Throughout all of his phases, he keeps his thick white beard. And he carries around his iconic sack of toys for the families. St. Nicholas, Victorian Father Christmas, modern Santa, all of these stages have a unique characteristic about them. Throughout all of his changes, this has made more history on the evolution of Santa’s classic suit. If people knew the origination of the Santa we know today, they could appreciate his history

Santa is a man that represents the Spirit of Christmas. Kris Kringle believed himself to be Santa Claus, and the courts even ruled he is not crazy. It really comes down to perception. I can deeply believe I am an angel and even convince others I am an angel. Does that mean I am crazy or are we not agreed on what that really means? Kris Kringle is Santa Claus, but we have to decide what that means. Does he have reindeer that fly and pull a sleigh with all the children of the world’s presents? Does he have time to go to every obedient child's house and fit through the chimney? Does he have magic? Is he all knowing? Of course not, but he is still Santa Claus. For one thing, Kris Kringle didn’t disagree when the parents of the children flat out said they needed to go and buy their children the gift Santa just said they would receive. For example, the lawyer putting Santa on trial even admitted that he was the one who purchased the gifts for his son.…

Hey Virginia, there is more than just a Santa Claus. Nowadays, Americans have either forgotten or ignored Christmas traditions put in place over 1500 years ago. They would rather indulge in the gifts and shopping to please their family than sit back and enjoy the holiday. This new mindset has led Christmas, Hanukkah, and other seasonal festivals to lose their religious intent through the past centuries by the hands of both people and markets. The original purpose of Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, has been trampled and overshadowed by a marketeer’s interpretation of how to represent the holiday. Santa and snowmen have become the faces of Christmas, instead of the Son…

The character I chose to render a costume design for is Troy Maxson from the play Fences by August Wilson. Troy is the family’s main source of income and his character is a very strong willed and stubborn 53-year-old man. Troy relentlessly told his son, Cory, multiple times that his football recruitment was a waste of time and that he should get “…recruited in how to fix cars or something where he can make a living” (8; ch.1, sec.1). Therefore, from Troy’s actions, I knew that his costume should entail a sense of seriousness such as nothing brightly colored or crazy patterned clothing. Another area in the script that influences my costume choices was the setting of the play. The play was set on a dirty entrance of an old brick building house…

The book, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is the originally book where the ideas came from. But, comparing to the movie “The Lion King” there are many ways that they are the same and many ways that they are different. Scrooge has seen the first ghost “the ghost of christmas past” and the ghost had taken Scrooge to his his past. Scrooge saw many scenes but after all the important scenes were shown to Scrooge the ghost took Scrooge back to the present. Shortly after, in his room was another ghost, except this one was surrounded by food and clothed in a long green robe. The second ghost was “the ghost of christmas present”. “It was clothed in one simple green robe, or mantle, bordered with white fur. This garment hung so loosely on the figure, that its captious breast was bare, as if disdaining to be warded or concealed by any article”(Dickens,…
