Santa Rosa Junior College Application Essay Sample
Samuel Clemens advised “Go to bed early, get up early-this is wise”, and by appreciating the soundness of his words, rarely, if ever, do I find myself in the chaos of late morning traffic. By accomplishing little everyday small tasks such as getting up early in time for a healthy breakfast or studying in motivating environments allows me to be extremely productive and effective as a student at the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC). For the past seven months, I’ve held an environmental specialist internship at the Santa Rosa Water Department that goes hand-in-hand with my dedication and efforts at the junior college. Over the past two years, it has been my pleasure to participate in courses and to become a part of the SRJC culture. I am motivated and eager to continue to develop a strong background of calculus, general chemistry, biology and critical thinking, and expanding physics, engineering and organic chemistry. My overarching education goal is to receive a bachelors of science in environmental engineering or hydrologic science. My top three universities of choice are UC Berkley and Cal Poly for their environmental engineering programs and UC Santa Barbara for hydrologic …show more content…

On top of that, I plan to take early college classes. Being in AP classes is a true test of one’s perseverance and ability to discipline yourself of being punctual, managing time one’s wisely, and putting nothing but your best in all your work. My sophomore year, I joined AP Human Geography with Mrs. Koanui, and admittedly, I struggled with self-discipline in regards to time management. Thus, resulting in numerous counts of restless nights, along with several other factors concerning social and extracurricular activities, disrupted my focus in the class. Additionally, I turned in countless late works in the third and fourth terms, but taking part in such a rigorous class allowed for me to be a better, more focused, and industrious student in both my current regular and AP classes. Furthermore, I find myself with better time management skills and I currently am able to balance both my studies social interactions, having extra time even. I firmly believe that being a well-rounded student is a key role in success as both an individual and student. I attempt my best to partake in as many clubs as I can, and currently, involved in five other…

In considering which path to take in graduate school, I immediately had a flashback to when I would travel with my mother and care for my younger siblings while she worked as a counselor to provide assistance with psychosocial support and mental health care to communities, families and individuals in conflict and post-conflict situations. Having the opportunity to observe her and the organization change so many people’s lives while providing them with hope, planted the seed of nurturing and counseling in my heart. Since middle school I have devoted my time to taking on every opportunity that comes my way to volunteer with helping my community better the lives of our youths.…

The education necessary to excel in this field is rigorous and slightly lengthy, but will be brief when my ultimate goals, aspirations, and love for the math and science subjects are taken into consideration. My first path for extended education after graduating is attending Pierce Community College. Here I will attain my Associate of Science Degree, and I will focus my studies on their Track Two option. “The Associate of Science degree (AS-T) is designed for students who plan to transfer to science programs at four-year institutions after completing the first two years of study at Pierce. The degree enables students to fulfill the undergraduate general education requirements of most four-year science degree programs.”(http://www.pierce.ctc.edu/dist/degree/as#track2). I will apply myself to their Track Two option because it is meant “For Science Pre-Majors in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics and Atmospheric Sciences.”(http://www.pierce.ctc.edu/dist/degree/as#track2). This course requires 93 credits, which is equal to 6.2 quarters. With this in mind, it will take about 1.75 years to finish. Various classes will be taken including Calculus I, II, and III, Physics I, II,and III, Humanities, General Chemistry, and English Composition. Upon completion of my time at Pierce College, I will transfer into the Civil and Environmental Engineering Program offered at the University of Washington. “The Bachelor of Science in Civil…

Bryant McGill once said, "Whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest chance at growth". No matter the situation, people usually will either follow or lead. As a freshman in high school, I was the follower, never fully realizing my potential of being the leader. Finding myself would take time, and a lot of encouraging along the way. Going into my freshman year, my participation in class government was mostly a popularity contest. Which meant not so much about leading a particular class or group of people. I didn't find myself thinking about running for any major ASB (Associated Student Body) position. A larger, more pronounced position in ASB would mean being uncomfortable in more situations and also having to grow into true leadership.…

Having the chance to become a member of NJHS isn't something everybody gets, and I am glad I was given the opportunity. Already, I have been helping in a local Girl Scout troop by being an aide and helping planning meetings, as well as being a leader at my churches “Teens with Character” meetings starting soon. I have been to Feed My Starving Children many times in the past, and plan to do it this year as well with friends, as it has always been a fun way to help others that are less fortunate and improve leadership and communication skills.…

In 2011 I had the privilege to attend Camp Eagle the same week as the Dallas Baptist University Worship team. I was able to meet the band members Aaron Zavala, Jordan Patterson, and Jason Deutsch, the bass player. They looked like such a close group, a group I knew I wanted to be a part of. We are naturally drawn to those who share common interests; I play bass for my church, and I had the opportunity to talk to Jason about playing bass guitar and my future. He asked me where I planned to attend college and I could not answer his question, but I had not really thought about it. He started telling me about a few of his experiences at DBU and what an amazing school it had been for him. We ended our conversation with him telling me to continue playing bass because there aren’t enough bass players in the world.…

Just as the AP course positively impacted me, with the assistance of the Woodford R. Porter Scholarship, I know I can have the same impact on the University of Louisville community. At the University of Louisville, I hope to earn my degree in chemical engineering. I do understand that this degree requires a lot of knowledge about mathematics. Because I was able to overcome difficult academic situations in high schools, I know I am better prepared to deal with these challenges in college. Furthermore, my experiences of struggling in my AP courses have helped me become more sympathetic to my peers. If I see one of my peers struggling, I will provide assistance to them because I know how hard it is to ask for help. By working with my peers, we can ultimately develop a friendship inside and outside the classroom. By developing these relationships, we can learn from one another. While I cannot change my peers’ perspectives about certain issues, I can introduce them to a new perspective, my perspective. By introducing my peers to my perspective, I have helped them become more self-aware as they can do the same for me. In essence, by attending the University of Louisville, I know I can uphold the University’s mission by improving my peers’ lives by sharing my own lived experiences in classrooms. By sharing my narrative and experiences, I know I will create a more diverse…
