The accounts of Cray Jr. and Machin provide a contrasting representation of the early 1800s. While Cray Jr. presents a powerful nationalism that swept across the United States during this time, Machin details the embodiment of greed and getting into harm’s way emerging out of the Embargo with Britain. Between these two, the more powerful influence on daily life during this time-period was the nationalism which arose from the events of the Chesapeake affair.…

Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña painted a landscape called Forest Pool in 1862, and Georgia O’Keeffe painted a landscape called Pink Moon Over Water in 1924. These painters from two different countries and periods in time each had a similar goal in mind: to express themselves in their work. Through their use of composition, color, light and space the artists convey to the viewer a sense of their time through the values their paintings depict; Diaz’s emphasis is placed on the imagination and emotions of the artist in a surreal yet realistic setting, while O’Keeffe’s focus was on her personal view of the world and a rejection of reality.…

I will be writing a comparative analysis based on two different articles that are about local farmers’ markets and whether they help or hinder the environment and community. I will be writing this for my English 111 class taught by Professor Johnson as well as for my peers. Local farmers’ markets have become a growing genre within the food culture and provide us with a specific type of food that is hard to find in a grocery store. The purpose of my writing will be to inform you of the different viewpoints on farmers’ markets. I believe that hearing two sides of every story will help to make your decision be more informed as to shopping locally or not. It is also apparent within these two different viewpoints, that there is a class of people who shop solely at farmers’ markets, and a class of people whom could greatly benefit the farmers’ market culture.…

    Richar Alvarez Analysis

Mrs. Alvarez was raised in Dominican Republic, where the mother tongue is Spanish, but soon, she got enrolled in a (probably private) school, where she also learned English. Even though the learning of a new language is better at early ages, it certainly has consequences in us. Julia started mixing words in both languages (what we call Spanglish), but not only in her informal conversations with friends and family, but in school, what gave her problems with her professor. She also found herself talking in English with his grandfather, who apparently did not speak the language. Besides the linguistic problems, bilingualism might make us think twice what we say, specially when we are in an environment where two or more languages are spoken. In my opinion, this should not affect your identity, since we should know where we belong and what we are, but this is an answer that only Julia knows.…

During the Western European Baroque movement, Jan Vermeer and Diego Velazquez were two significant artists. “The Music Lesson” a painting by Vermeer and “Las Meninas”, a painting by Velazquez, compare significantly but also share contrasted traits. While both “Las Meninas” and “The Music Lesson” are defined by their use of mirroring, light and realism, the fundamental differences of both works are outlined by the artists use of subject matter, room decor or set up and the shift in foreground and background reflection; using indirect and direct perspective. Both paintings express great contrast and comparison with one another whilst being both denotative and connotative in their description.…

In these lines Wordsworth writes about when he was younger and the memories he has which he can never replicate. He's haunted by the beauty of the the rocks, the mountains and the woods. He thinks about the charms of the scenery, how it looks at the time, how it looked in the past and it’s gifts. He gains pleasure from the scenery and reminisces about how nature inspired him even in his younger days, how it what he was looking at would possibly inspire him in later days.…
