November 28 2017 The Knowledge of Saraswati "The mind acts like an enemy for those who don't control it" by the Bhagavad Gita. This quote is demonstrating how it is up to an individual to take control of their thoughts. People were given the gift of thought by the goddess Saraswati, she is the goddess of music, art, knowledge, wisdom and learning. She gave her people the ability to learn and gain knowledge, it's up to them to use it. In Hindu she a very important goddess, she represents knowledge and humility by the way she is presented. In Catholicism there is one God but patron saints, the doctors of the church worked in the aspects of learning and expending their knowledge to fully understand. They exemplified the importance of education and bettering oneself. For example, Saint Thomas Aquinas is the patron saint of universities and learning. Aquinas is greatly known for his study in the priesthood and striving to know God better through his work. He said because a doctor of Catholic truth ought not only to teach the progicient, but to him pertains also to instruct beginners."(Catholic). He stressed the importance of teaching everyone because they are willing to learn and continue the knowledge. Both Aquinas and Saraswati believed in the importance of learning. Catholics can pray to Aquinas for help and the guidance of achieving knowledge just like Hindus pray to Saraswati. In conclusion, Saraswati is a very influential goddess in the Hindu culture by the gifts she bestows to her people.
