Scabies is a skin disease caused by the parasite Sarcoptes scabiei. There are several sub-species of Sarcoptes scabiei, this paper addresses Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis, which is specific to humans. Biological classification of Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis is as follows: domain Eukaryota, kingdom Animalia, phylum Arthropoda, class Arachnida (subclass Acari), order Astigmata, family Sarcoptidae, Genus Sarcoptes, Species Sarcoptes scabiei.
