Medicine Game is a fascinating documentary film about lacrosse players, Jeremy and Hiana Thompson. The Thompson brothers are living in Upstate New York with their parents and siblings and belong to the Onondaga Nation. Since they were little, they have dream to play for the Syracuse University lacrosse team. This film in short is a documentation of their struggles to achieve their dreams. I, personally, really like the way Jeremy perceives lacrosse game. He says that they should respect the game, treat it good, and play it in order to make the Creator happy. It is more like ceremony; to happily play for the Creator, and praise Him through lacrosse. It is understandable when an athlete is very passionate about their own sports, but to put spirituality essence in it, I think not many athletes do.…
Some other examples of ironical situations are given in the following scenes: the treatment of Dr.blifil by his brother captain Blifil after he got married to Bridget; the circumstances of captain Blifil’s death where the conduct of physicians called to examine the dead captain Blifil and they start to debate about the cause of his death. In the meantime Mrs.Blifil had fallen in a fit and then recovered from physician. She continued a whole month with all the decoration of sickness, and received constant message from her acquaintance to enquire after her health.…
Actual events, and celebrities, from history are often pitted against fictional possibilities to create the humor. One example involves Paul Revere using a cellular phone (Geico 2013). I found this to be very appealing based on how the ad is presented, how it relates to the target audience, and how imagery is used to convey the message. The ad is presented in a fashion that takes us back to a time in history prior to our current technology; however, it incorporates the use of a cell phone. It relates to the target audience because our modern generation uses cell phones to communicate most of the time. In this case, the message conveyed is that switching to Geico will make you “Happier than Paul Revere with a cell phone” (Geico). The entire commercial relies on humor to not only gain the interest of the audience, but to convince them of the sell at the…
Like a good neighbor State Farm is there. I hate that jingle. The comericals that State Farm do are a little corny, and irritating to me. My wife is constantly laughing at him over this. I really just don't like State Farm, however, everone knows that jingle, and it brings to memory of folks what company it stands for. With commercials, the odder they are, the more people seem to remember.…
The Colorado State University (CSU) Theater brings to light a whole new dimension of the original propaganda film Reefer Madness. They basically turn the film into a musical comedy that pokes fun at the hysteria caused by the original work. However, I don’t think it is the artist’s main purpose to just make fun of the ludicrous allegations made by the 1936 production. Instead, I think the artists were trying to illustrate how some people will go to the extreme to convince us of their ways even when it comes to the most harmless and minuscule of things. The musical accomplish this by creating a mashup of theatrical styles and isms, such as using both high and low comedy, expressionism, and realism.…

The SNL commercial expresses satire by discussing the pepsi commercial in a sarcastic way, also known as imitating it. This way, people will either find it humerous or incredibly rude, which is always the outcome in quality humerous videos.…
Implausibility is one of the main components in a tall tale. In Mark Twain's tall tale, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, he uses many different examples of implausible humor. The unbelievable humor in his story is noticed through the characterization of Jim Smiley and the events that occur while Smiley is attempting to educate his frog. The passage about the frog shows the true dedication that Smiley puts into the bets that he makes. The key to Mark Twains implausible humor is represented in the passage about the educated frog.…

To eliminate the partial representation of mental illnesses, television media needs to focus on all sides of this illness. The media needs to show that attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) is a legitimate disorder with effective treatments.…
Today, you could attest to saying that times have been rough here in America. With an increase in gas and food prices, due to two major hurricanes (Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas and Hurricane Irma in the State of Florida), the unemployment rate is still at a steady rise, and family’s homes are still being foreclosed. It is particular hard to say that homelessness is decreasing. Although the resulting numbers from the 2008 National Count of homelessness that is done every year in January, showed that there was a 12% decrease in homeless people on the streets and shelters from 2005-2007 and a 30% decrease in chronic homelessness in 2005. The moral controversy of this issue is to ask, what can we do to physical decrease the number of people on the streets and in…
In the ever-expanding world today, consumers are becoming increasingly vulnerable to the ploys of mass media advertising and pharmaceutical companies alike. Ethan Watters in “The Mega-Marketing of Depression in Japan” delves into the dangers of the globalization of a mentality for depression that seeks to transcend cultural values and traditions completely. Every culture is unique in its explanatory reasoning for various circumstances and events that occur in the population, ranging from mental health to a general outlook on life. This globalization by pharmaceutical companies seeks to eliminate the social and natural confines of a disease like depression and instead establish a medical model that is rigidly enforced through marketing and challenging…
