i. Support- when he is killed, the chaos of the violence is juxtaposed by the calamity of the ocean and the stillness of the surroundings
III. Characterization- The Inheritors- Savage versus Civilized Characters
A. The Neanderthals are eventually overtaken by the Homo Sapiens.
a. Neanderthals= the "People"
b. Homo Sapiens= the "New People"/ The "Inheritors"
B. Golding characterizes the evil and guilt of the “New People” by opposing them with the good and innocent “People”.
a. Description- when the "People" come across the concept of evil or physical examples of evil and cruelty, they cannot understand and comprehend.
b. Example/Support- when they see a deer that had been killed, they are disgusted by it.

c. Support- have lots of property and land

e. Support- unlike the Neanderthals, the Homo Sapiens use weapons for almost everything.
a. Example- Tuami makes a bone knife, and he cuts off a man's fingers with a stone axe
b. Example- even for a comb, Vivani uses a bone comb
f. Support- they sacrifice the young girl to the devils

a. *this sacrifice is for the sole purpose of gaining the power and ability to kill.
a. Character Quality- not respectful of nature and their blessings
b. Support- they squander and over indulge.
a. Example- Marlan eats huge amounts while his people starve.
b. Example- The fire they build, which burns the log that killed Mal, is huge and blazing. It overcomes the darkness.
