Nuclear[edit]
Main articles: Nuclear explosion and Effects of nuclear explosions
In addition to stellar nuclear explosions, a man-made nuclear weapon is a type of explosive weapon that derives its destructive force from nuclear fission or from a combination of fission and fusion. As a result, even a nuclear weapon with a small yield is significantly more powerful than the largest conventional explosives available, with a single weapon capable of completely destroying an entire city.
Properties of explosions[edit]
Force[edit]
Explosive force is released in a direction perpendicular to the surface of the explosive. If the surface is cut or shaped, the explosive forces can be focused to produce a greater local effect; this is known as a shaped charge.
Velocity[edit]

This article is written like a personal reflection or opinion essay rather than an encyclopedic description of the subject. Pleasehelp improve it by rewriting it in an encyclopedic style. (May 2013)
The speed of the reaction is what distinguishes the explosive reaction from an ordinary combustion reaction . Unless the reaction occurs rapidly, the thermally expanded gases will be dissipated in the medium, and there will be no explosion. Again, consider a wood or coal fire. As the fire burns, there is the evolution of heat and the formation of gases, but neither is liberated rapidly enough to cause an explosion. This can be likened to the difference between the energy discharge of a battery, which is slow, and that of a flash capacitor like that in a camera flash, which releases its energy all at once.
Evolution of heat[edit]
The generation of heat in large quantities accompanies most explosive chemical reactions. The exceptions are called entropic explosives and include organic peroxides such as acetone peroxide[2] It is the rapid liberation of heat that causes the gaseous products of most explosive reactions to expand and generate high pressures. This rapid generation of high pressures of the

When a few drops of glycerine are placed in a pile of potassium permanganate, a redox type reaction occurs. This reaction is exothermic (releasing energy). With the glycerine boiling giving off smoke and eventually producing flame that spreads around the pile of potassium permanganate. All the glycerine is going to be consumed by the permanganate. Also in the reaction, both kinds of energy are produced. Light and thermal energy. After all the reactants of this reaction have reached the necessary activation energy, the pile of Potassium permanganate combusts into a very hot flame which is usually exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius. Potassium permanganate oxidizes glycerine in a spontaneous reaction that generates a lot of energy in the forms of heat and light. It is said that items of food contain considerable energy. With appropriate conditions, this energy is released much more rapidly than in our body. That is why this reaction appears so violent to our eyes. The energy is released very rapidly. The two reaction are really similar one to the…

The atomic bomb, also known as the atom bomb or fission bomb, a weapon whose explosive power originates from the fission of atomic nuclei, a reaction in which an atomic nucleus splits in two. When the nucleus of a heavy atom, such as the element uranium-235, which is what the atom bomb is made out of, is split, a certain amount of mass disappears and an equivalent amount of energy is released. This was expressed by the equation E=mc2 (energy = mass times the speed of light squared). This is the energy that powers an atom bomb. On a pound-for-pound basis, the U-235 in an atomic bomb can release on the order of one million times as much energy as TNT, a high explosive. The atomic bomb is the first nuclear powered bomb ever used. The atom bomb was created by people that worked in the Manhattan Project. The explosion generated Alpha, Beta, Gamma and neutron rays. Alpha and Beta rays were absorbed by the air and did not reach to the ground. Gamma and neutron rays were strong enough to reach the ground; thus it was these rays that affected people. Within 1/16 mile radius from the explosion center, most people died within a few hours (even in the case where they were not directly exposed to the heat or wind). Within a half mile radius, most people died within 30 days after the explosion. The people who entered the area within a half mile radius from the explosion center in the first 100 hours after the explosion were also affected by the remaining radiation on the ground. Fortunately it has not been observed that the long term effects of radiation affected A-bomb survivors nor that a radiation exposure caused genetic damages. The United States made Japan surrender due to the atomic bomb, which caused many deaths and destruction in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The atomic bomb left Hiroshima and Nagasaki in ruins.…

A fusion bomb is a bomb that uses nuclear fusion to gain energy. A specific fusion bomb would be a hydrogen bomb or also called the H-bomb. How the bomb works is it uses deuterium and tritium (which are both isotopes of hydrogen) and they fuse into helium releasing great amounts of energy. The bomb itself was thought up by many people but Edward Teller was the one who took the ideal and ran with it. He created and tested multiple Hydrogen Bombs in his life.…

Fusion bombs, also called hydrogen or thermonuclear bombs, were developed and tested in the early 1950s, but these have never been used in warfare. A thermonuclear device depends on a fission reaction to produce extreme heat that causes hydrogen isotopes of deuterium and tritium to come together, or fuse, but the main energy source for thermonuclear devices comes from the fusion reaction, not the triggering fission reaction.…
