The first benefit is saving money. By being harmless to the environment, global warming can be reduced because Power Plants, the source of electricity, releases carbon dioxide, which damages our ozone layer. According to Steve Conner’s article “Melting Glaciers Are Caused by Man-made Global Warming”, there is a lag response of several decades which means that we are only seeing a fraction of the total anthropogenic effects on melting glaciers that we will eventually see as a result of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere now (Conner 2). According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a simple task like replacing the light bulbs in your home can save up “75% energy of the 10% home energy costs.” Or simply unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use – a task made easier by using multiple-outlet strips, which can turn everything off with the flip of a switch – can save you money. For example, Leaving a computer on all day can cost about “21 cents per day, or about $75 per year” (U.S. Department of energy). As the old saying goes, you need money to make money, and this is never more true than it is in the United States, the land where the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor. Howard Zinn asks, "What is economic justice?" There is no clear answer, except to say economic justice simply does not exist.…

Energy comes from the earth. In order to make the necessary forms of energy for use, we must use the earth’s resources. Unfortunately, the earth’s resources that are being used to make energy cannot be replaced forcing us to conserve energy. Conserving energy can be achieved through energy efficiency. First we must define to conserve and energy efficiency. To conserve energy means to save as much as possible. Energy efficiency means to use our resources wisely and productively. So to save energy we must use the earth’s resources wisely and productively. Moreover there are several reasons why conserving energy is important. For instance, conserving energy leads to taking responsibility for the current and future state of the ecosystem, and humankind.
