Scarlet Ibis Paragraph

Although there are many similarities and differences Simon Birch and “Scarlet Ibis”, it is most interesting to examine the characters, conflicts, and symbols. This essay will be showing all these similarities and differences, between certain characters, conflicts, and symbols. The characters being examined are Joe from Simon Birch, and the narrator for “Scarlet Ibis”. Joe always cared for Simon, which caused him to eventually experience a spiritual change. Thanks to Simon Birch Joe started believing in God. ON the other hand, the narrator slightly cared for his younger brother, but would always put his own longing for pride above his brother Doodles health. However later in the story he realized what he was doing once Doodle died. The conflict being examined in Simon Birch is Person vs. Person when Simon is ill-treated by his Sunday school teacher. Also it is Person vs. Society because Simon struggles to be accepted by the “normal” people. The conflict being examined in “Scarlet Ibis” is Pride vs. Health of Doodle when the narrator puts his pride over the health of his brother Doodle until he learns how to be more like “normal” kids his age. The conflicts in both stories are similar because they all have to do with how Simon and Doodle are being ill-treated because if their disabilities. They are different from each other because the conflicts from Simon Birch are about what is happening to Simon, but the conflict from “Scarlet Ibis” is about how the narrator is craving so much pride that he will do anything to get it, even risk his brother’s life. The symbol being examined in Simon Birch is how Simon is like Jesus in many ways. The main thing that starts this is how he plays baby Jesus in the Church pageant. This symbolizes Simon’s fate. Simon thinks he has something he is destine for because of his small height, just like Jesus was destine to die for our sins. Jesus sacrificed his

Doodle, a younger disabled brother in James Hurst’s “The Scarlet Ibis”, is uniquely symbolic to the beautiful red bird seen dying in his yard. The scarlet ibis, like Doodle, both are exotic in many wonderful ways. For one instance, the ibis is beautiful, while Doodle has a creative imagination. The ibis is a rare phenomenal bird, likewise, Doodle is an extraordinary boy. He is sensitive, like when he sees Old Woman Swamp. “His eyes were round with wonder as he gazed about him, and his little hands began to stroke the rubber grass. Then he began to cry. “It’s so pretty, so pretty, pretty, pretty.” (318). Despite the Ibis and Doodle’s magnificent traits, both ibis and Doodle suffer from a horrible storm. The ibis faced a storm that blew it all…

It can be disputed that Brother was cruel to Doodle, or that his treatment towards him was otherwise actually rather helpful. For one, the only reason he helped Doodle at all was for his own benefit, and not really for Doodle’s. On the other hand, it is essential for the reader to remember that Doodle is physically and mentally disabled and thus cannot do as much as the…

The scarlet ibis and Doodle have very much in common. First of all, this bird and this boy do not belong to the world they are living in. For example, this bird is a tropical bird and can not survive in the environment it was put in. The same thing happens with Doodle. He was born a cripple and he can not be a strong and athletic person as his brother is. However, his brother has a lot of expectations towards Doodle, and as a result of it, Doodle dies. Doodle likes this bird very much because they are the same, two creatures which do not belong to the place where they are. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald are two novels, which address similar themes with completely opposite resolves. The authors use their main characters, Hester, Dimmesdale, Gatsby, and Daisy, in their respective works to present these themes. The action in both novels revolves around unfaithfulness, its effects on the characters, and the results of committing adultery, which prove to be antipode from one novel to the other. These antitheses can be found by a look at the different roles of adultery in the novels.…

Desire of revenge, feeling of repentance, and distress of living of a life with identity crisis are some of the other theme of the story. But the most important theme of the novel that hooks the attention of the readers is duality of human heart. The Scarlet Letter is full of duality; every character is, in some degree, has duality. The townspeople and officials are because of their views of Hester and how they treat her. The main characters that will be discussed in this paper are prime examples of duality. The people that they are and the people that they become through the circumstances of their situations show this. Although adultery is discussed and condemned by the townspeople and the effects of the sin are evident, this is not the main focus of the book. The analysis of the main characters of The Scarlet Letter and their situations and how they tie into the overall theme of the story shows that Hawthorne is focusing on duality rather than on adultery.SThis very novel explains the symbiotic functions of the human heart that fluctuates and deteriorates in accordance with various situations. This book clarifies that duality, a human trait inherent in human heart. If you have a look on the major characters of The Scarlet Letter, we will get the clear picture of the duality, works in…

People generally have the same behavioral tendencies, despite their location, like from a town to a forest someone’s behavior will not change much if at all. Although, in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, they represent polar opposing behavioral systems. The town represents civilization, a rule-bound space where everything one does is on display and where transgressions are quickly punished. The forest, on the other hand, is a space of natural rather than human authority. In the forest, society’s rules do not apply, and alternate identities can be assumed. This physical and social separation allows for two different lives to be played by two of our main characters, Dimmesdale, and Hester.…
