School Dress Code
Have you ever been walking in a school and nearly been blinded by a student that was wearing clothing that was immodest or scanty? In this situation, it seems that a dress code is sorely needed. Dress codes have been and still are a raging subject of debate in our schools. They are constantly being assessed and evaluated to determine and confirm that schools are providing the optimal learning environment for their students. Clothing that is revealing; obscene; suggestive; or displays inappropriate words, pictures, or phrases must not be allowed to be worn by students for many reasons. First, clothing that is skimpy or revealing is very distracting. Schools are supposed to be a place of learning where students can focus on developing their skills, talents, and ultimately, who they are. The last thing they need are unimportant distractions that detract from their learning and excelling in life. It is a lot easier for one to concentrate and focus on what is important when people--especially girls--wear modest clothing that does not distract other students in classes. Next, revealing clothing or attire with sayings that are inappropriate or explicit can encourage bad behaviors among students. Immoral concepts, images, or ideas can potentially cause students--especially at their age right now-- to think that it is alright or normal for them to perform these unlawful and inappropriate actions. When any act of wickedness occurs, thought almost always precedes the action. Clothing that is revealing, expresses ideas that are dangerous, or conveys sexual or suggestive concepts definitely plays a major and negative role in people’s thoughts and-- indirectly--their own actions. So, the best thing to do is play it safe by prohibiting immodest clothing and thereby preventing any bad thoughts and illegal actions that this attire can sometimes tempt. We are indirectly keeping our schools more safe by executing strict dress codes that enforce and promote modest apparel. These codes
