School Psychologist Career Analysis
A School Psychologist has many roles within a school setting. One of the most important roles is their leadership role within the school. In order to be an effective leader one must have strong professional values, attitudes, and behaviors. At this point in my career, I have learned the different ways in which one can grow and develop their professional values, attitudes and behaviors.

Everyone is subject to constructive criticism and feedback is an important part of professional growth and development. In my experience, a great leader is one who is able to accept their flaws, and actively work to make positive changes. I strive to maintain my integrity and professional identity during my daily interactions with students, families, staff and other professionals. I feel that maintaining a professional identity as well as integrity is especially essential during meetings and assement, which affect the course of a student’s educational career. I strive to maintain the appropriate deportment given the situations I may encounter. When addressing a parent I try to remain compassionate, professional and warm. I enjoy working with others, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than myself. An important part of being on a team is accountability. I have learned from experience that everyone’s contributions help to bring about positive change. That is why I strive to be accountable for my work and I put and effort into anything I do.

Whenever I approach a situation, an evaluation, or any other task required of me, I always keep the clients and other stakeholders at the front of my mind. I feel that my concern for others is a natural trait that I possess. In fact it is my personal and professional experiences that have made advocacy for others, the focal point of my career aspirations as a School Psychologist. I strive to advocate for those whose voices may be otherwise lost.

Finally, as a professional I am always learning and growing more with each experience. I strive to acquire new knowledge that may increase my skillset. Lifelong learning is a big part of being a professional especially in the ever-changing field of school psychology. In order to be an effective leader in my school community, I acknowledge that I will need to keep growing as a person and as a professional. It is with great confidence that I feel my experiences have provided me with the foundation to be an effective leader and school

    Specifically, the importance of communication among all stakeholders not only in the creation of buy in on key intiatives our department is implementing but also in the establishing of relationships built on trust.
