School shootings are something horrible yet something that has occurred more than once in the USA. I have had a hard time understanding exactly how someone can pick up a gun and shoot people at their own age – people they’ve gone to school with, innocent people. I don’t understand how you can steal their life for no reason. It’s teenagers who suddenly shoot people – boys and girls who are supposed to be their friends. Why do they do this?
The first person that did a school shooting was Brenda Spencer, and her comment was: “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day” – that was her reason. I think an answer like that is very disturbing. Maybe some people are just crazy, but after watching the documentary about Brenda Spencer, I have concluded that there might be other things that make a girl like Brenda open fire. I can concluded the same thing with the Columbine school shooting, where Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire and shot several students and a teacher – after I watched the documentary about the two boys, I understand things better. When I compare the two cases of school shootings, I can see one thing that is the same – problems with family or friends. If things aren’t right at home, then it has consequences for the teenagers. Brenda’s father gave her a rifle for Christmas, and her mother apparently knew that she was suicidal and yet she didn’t do anything because she thought it was Brenda’s father’s responsibility. If you know something like that about your own daughter, normally, you would react but her mother didn’t do anything. She didn’t even tell Brenda’s father. To me that just doesn’t sound normal and it doesn’t sound like a family that is well functioned. Maybe Brenda has had a though childhood and maybe this school shooting was her cry for help, or maybe it was a reaction to all the things she might have been put through.
After watching the documentary about Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, I know that they weren’t
