Another change which I have noted is the change in teachers. Teachers today seem much more approachable than twenty years ago. Today's teachers dress in a more casual and relaxed way. They don'tt drop dead in their tracks if you call them by their first name. Most important, they seem to have actually admitted that they didn't know the answer to a question which a student asked. They often say, however, that they know where thay cand find the answer. This willingness to be a learner alonng with the students is new to me. Teachers today are frequently partners in the learning process. The teacher of twenty years ago was more interested in maintaining his authority.
Maybe I ame overgeneralizing about the changes which have occurred in the Canadian education system; nevertheless, I am convinced that both the content of courses and the teachers themselves have changed immensely. The system still isn't perfect, but as an adult student I am convinced that it is basically better.

The current, test based, American Educational system fails to instill in student a desire for life- long learning and does not prepare them to be well rounded and successful adults. A change in educational philosophy needs to be made in this country before it is to late. Educations is what defines a person life and without a proper education, people wont be able to go anywhere in life. Students usually study for their test and forget what they studied the next day. After school all students want to do is get away from their work and not have to do it anymore. There is not necessarily a perfect educational system, but it could be better than what we have now. People are not going where they are supposed to after schooling. There is a book, That Used To Be Us by Thomas L. Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum, which can prove this.…

The social aspect of society has probably changed the most since the 1920’s. People rarely talk face-to-face anymore. Most if not all communication is done though either the Internet or with a phone. In the 20’s people would’ve had to send a letter or travel long distances to talk to others a ways away. Now, this can be done in just a matter of seconds. However, some things have remained the same, such as fashion. Fashion was and always will be a large part of society. People usually always want to look their best so it’ll always be a big thing.…

universities”, I strongly agree with Kee Dewdney and Vanessa Morgan, my belief is that Canada’s school system is lacking on the basic ability of teaching. There are many reasons behind this, in my opinion I would say it is not just the students fault, yes we are easily distracted, yes our attention span is very low and yes we do tend not to care or put in any effort, but it is just as much a teachers fault as it is a students because a teacher is the root, the starting point, and the guide to a successful well taught student. I great teacher means a great student. But what exactly is a great teacher? The way I look at it a great teacher is one who builds a relationship with each and every one of their students, a teacher that basically studies his/her students, one who is welling to give that extra half hour to help a student, one that points out the wrong and substitutes it with the right. A great teacher use logic and tactics to approach each student differently based on how they learn.…

Education, one part of this new change, improved greatly during this time period. Before the 1920’s, there were 1 million student enrolled in high school. High schools catered to college bound students and there was more focus on the lower levels such as the elementary grades. There was a limited variety of courses you can take in school. The number of immigrants increased to 1 million immigrants and school costs doubled. During the 1920’s, there was a significant increase in the students enrolled, from 1 million to 4 million. There was more of a broad range of courses developing, such as, vocational training for those interested in industrial jobs. Trades and industrial education was promoted in the city while agricultural education was promoted in rural areas. The number of immigrants increased significantly as more people arrived to America. There were a total of 2-4 million immigrants and the immigrant children filled the city…

The end of the nineteenth century brought an explosion of change to American culture. This change came in the form of economic opportunities, massive immigration, and social reforms. As society progressed into a deeper state of industrialism, Americans adapted to a new way of life that accompanied the flourishing industries. Amid the economic and political changes that were occurring during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, social issues began to surface and called for a diverse array of reforms. Among the wide range of social problems that Americans sought to address was the issue of education. The schools began to experience a paradigm shift within the classroom. The classroom was evolving into an environment that would appropriately prepare American children for the shifting culture that was transpiring outside the school. The purpose of the classroom underwent a transformation in the early 1900s as new classroom practices were adopted that focused largely on the development of the student not only academically, but also socially.…
