The Scientific revolution in europe brought people to realize under the guidance of Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo that the world was not a still planet orbited by other "perfect" orbs or the sun, but instead it along with the other imperfect earth-like worlds rotated the sun. Also these men showed the ordained church was not flawless, and this opened u a door, a door that allowed the church to be questioned and made people want to draw their own conclusions (this desire would lead to more people becoming educated as well).
