For this experiment my hypothesis was correct. The purpose of this experiment was achieved by observing and finding out the characteristics of each substance. The sugar turned brown and smelled good when heated, salt turned black and smelled like burnt rubber when heated, dirt turned to mud when water was added, and baking soda started to bubble when vinegar was added. According to table 1 the data shows that the unknown substance had similar characteristics to both sugar and dirt. And so to find out if my hypothesis was correct or not experiments were carried out based on tests that were characteristics of either sugar or dirt. One experiment was heating the unknown substance to check if it would start drying up and bubbling brown. The other was adding water to test if it would turn into mud. Some mistakes that could be improved in the experiment next time is- making sure not to pour a lot of salt into the beaker when heating it, since there was a lot of salt when heating it the smell was more nastier and shocking. My project is about how much salt it will take for objects to float. In my project I will explain why certain objects float while others sink. I took three different objects with different amount of density and put them each in ten cups of water. I then put in teaspoons of water and recorded whether or not the objects floated until all the objects were floating. This project looks at how the temperature of an experiment can affect its reaction time. The purpose of this experiment is to determine if dissolving reactions are affected by waters temperature. I believe that if the H2O temperature increases, then the Alka-Seltzer tablet will dissolve faster because the hot water molecules will move faster colliding with the tablet particles. The first step in this experiment was to ask a question. My question was what is the identity of the six unknown substances? The second step was to create a hypothesis based on what I already know about each unknown substance. Third step was to test my hypotheses by using six methods. The first method was to determine the color of each substance. The second method I used was to calculate the density of each substance. I did this by first estimating the volume and then weighing each substance with a digital scale. To calculate the density I divided the mass by volume. The third method is to use the magnifying lens and look at the shape of each substance particle. Along with determining the shape I also recorded the texture and smell for each substance. I was assigned to do an experiment on mealworms with a few other students in class. The question we answered was do mealworms like a dark or light environment better? First we made a hypothesis. We believed that the mealworms would like the dark environment better than the lighter one. We placed five mealworms in the same dish and half of the dish was covered so it would be dark and we left the other half light for the different environments. We did five trials and got results that were very alike. All five times there were more mealworms in the dark environment than those in the light.
