Secondhand Lions: Overcoming Obstacles
Secondhand Lions

In Secondhand Lions, I felt that there were many important life lessons. From the start of the movie I thought that there might not be any connection between the uncles and Walter. Throughout the movie I realized that I was very wrong and that this new family had a lot to learn from each other. By the end of the story I could truly see that the everything that happened between the characters would always be with them the rest of their life. Both Walter and his uncles learned a great deal about life which all of them needed to know. Walter’s uncles were truly changed after Walters visit with them. They formed an everlasting love for each other that never ended. Throughout the story Walter’s uncles views on life had changed significantly. They went from not caring when they were going to die, to having to stay around for Walters sake. They all found a certain connection between each other that would continue forever, like when Walter returns at the end of the movie. Garth and Hub realized that they didn’t just have to sit around waiting to die, but that they should continue to live their life just as they always had. They continued to fight younger people, try

Instead of being the shy, quiet boy that he was, he started talking more and even started asking the uncles countless times to tell him the story if their adventures. Walter really came out of his shell and eventually started standing up for himself. At the end of the movie, Walter stood up to his mom’s boyfriend and even his mom. He finally got the courage to believe what he wanted to believe in and started living the life that was right for him. Towards the end of the story I could truly see how much love was be portrayed between Walter and his uncles. From his famous quote, “true love never dies” I believe that they showed every connection they had grown towards each other. They started acting like a true

In the book bad boy, Walter Dean Myers talks about his family background. In chapter one, Walter discussed his feelings about having no feelings for Mary Dolly Green because she died during the birth of my younger sister. Roots, the title of chapter one helps us to understand Walter’s background Even though Mary Dooly Green was Walters birth mother, he considered Florence Dean, his father first wife, his real mother. Walter had several family members that lived in this house. My father was now raising seven children. On page 3 Walter talks about his sisters, Gertrude, Ethel, Imogene and his two step sister from another marriage named Gerald and Viola. His family also included a brother named George.…

Walter then realizes his mistakes and comes to the conclusion that his family comes before money. When Walter was talking to Linder at the end of the book when Linder thought that the Younger’s were going to take his money. Walter stated “And we have decided that we will move into our house because my father-my father earned it for us brick by brick. We don’t want to cause no trouble for nobody or fight no causes, and we will try and be good neighbors . And that’s all we got to say about it . We don’t want your money”(148) Considering this Walter at the beginning of the book would've had happily taken Linder's money because all he cared about is money. Furthermore, this accurately depicts Walters evolution as a character from being a boy who only cared about money to a man who has realized that money isn't the most important thing in the world. Moreover in the same conversation with Linder. Walter said, “And my sister over there she going to be a doctor and we are very proud.”(148) Furthermore, this depicts that Walter is no longer a selfish person and respects the dreams of his family members . In the beginning of the play Walter did not want Beneatha to go to medical school or become a doctor because it would take away money that would be available for his dream however now Walters supports his sister’s…

While watching and analyzing the sixth episode of the Breaking Bed, I disagree with Harvrilesky that Walter White is unlikable because I believe that TV shows even make the anti-hero to be likable. The anti-hero characters, in the TV shows and films, have some specific historical backgrounds and show the audience the purpose of these anti-heroic actions, which usually convert the audience's senses of unlikable anti-hero into a of sympathy or respectfulness. The main character Walter White, a chemistry teacher at a high school, is diagnosed with the terminal cancer and going through the chemotherapy and, during his lecture at school, White has to rush to the restroom to throw up because of the side-effects from the therapy. These scenes shows…

The last three lines of dialogue reaffirm the details we already know, or have at least inferred by now: Walter's extreme betrayal of Keyes, Keyes' hurt caused by this wrong, and the still undying love between the two. Walter had told Keyes he loved him sarcastically in the office one time before in his brusque macho staccato, but when Walter says "I love you too," he means it this time. The repetition of the same line, one a sarcastic barb and one an earnest admission, shows arguably the only growth on Walter's part as an individual, and it is still in fact characterized by his relationship with another.…

Brutal training and practice, near death experiences night after night, the ability to make or break a night where everything you are your fellow circus mates have been working for day after day is finally displayed. All these are things that should and probably would bring most people together and allow them to generate respect for each other. However, in My Last Attempt to Explain to You What Happened with the Lion Tamer that is not the case at all. All of the characters in My Last Attempt to Explain to You What Happened with the Lion Tamer continuously demonstrate the extreme lack of respect they have for each other. Although there are many different relationships among characters in the story the one thing all the relationships share is the lack of regard for one another. Whether it is through spiteful action or words, there is no respect among the characters.…

“That’s all it takes, one drop of fear, to curdle love into hate” (Cain 54) – As soon as he set his eyes upon Mrs. Nirdlinger, Walter was in love. Both Walter and Phyllis may have an evident lust for money, but Walter’s infatuation with Phyllis’s being definitely encouraged his violent actions. Terry Anderson’s view of the news media fluctuates throughout the novel, Den of Lions. When he first begins his escapades of being a war correspondent, he is almost enchanted by each new place he visits, whether that is Japan, South Africa or Beirut, Syria. Of course, he prefers some places over others but is overall gripped by each new culture he comes across through his job as a journalist. When the war began to break out in Lebanon, Terry begins to admire Robert Fisk, a correspondent for the London Times. He notices how Fisk is able to remain neutral and somehow put the pain of witnessing war away. Fisk also advocated reporting all their mistakes and wickedness equally, whether it be cruel actions from the Israelis, Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians,…
