Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, was the living embodiment of the feud between the Capulet and Montague families. He represents the hatred the families share towards each other, showing how he has learnt from birth to hate the Montague family. He is seen as the instigator of countless events with Romeo and his friends, even killing Romeo’s best friend, Mercutio. After killing Mercutio, in an act of revenge Romeo kills Tybalt. Juliet, regardless of being related to Tybalt, even knows that Romeo “lives, that Tybalt would have slain, And Tybalt’s dead, that would have slain [her] husband” (Shakespeare 3.2.115-118).…
Wisely and slow, they stumble that run fast” (Shakespeare 2.3.99). This quote by Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, perfectly sums up two different types of relationships. One of which is represented by Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, who run fast into their love even though their families have a seemingly unending feud. They attempt to keep their relationship secret, which causes complications and ultimately ends in their death that barriers their families feud. A similar, but slower, relationship, which is the second type, is formed as a friendship between Lennie and George, in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, who are ranch hands that end up working on a farm in the Salinas Valley. They spend the majority of their lives together, George, small and smart, and Lennie, bigger but less intelligent, until trouble with a man on the ranch named Curley and his wife leads to George killing Lennie. When the two texts are compared, George and Lennie have a stronger relationship, because they always care for each other, they have trust, and their relationship is based off of friendship, while on the other hand Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is developed off of regretted actions, infatuation, and empty words.…
The case against Adnan Syed that sent him to jail for the rest of his life was frail and full of holes. On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was murdered at 2:36 PM. The prime witness for the case was a drug dealer, Jay. He said that Adnan was the one who murdered Hae. Adnan was just a 17-year-old kid. He was very well liked and he was not capable of murdering Hae. Adnan’s case was clearly mismanaged because if you look at all the facts, you would find inexplicable gaps in the case against him. After I listened to twelve podcasts about this case for several weeks, I was instantly suspicious of Jay. When I first heard about Jay, I learned that he was a drug dealer and most of the people he knew thought that he often acted strangely. Some people…
Juliet’s perspective of love, marriage and relationships have changed throughout Romeo and Juliet. At the beginning of the play Juliet never thought about love or marriage and never considered love or marriage, for when her parents told her that they want her to marry Paris she asked how can I love someone if I don’t even know him. “I have never dreamed about marriage.” When Juliet’s family had a party Romeo snuck in and when Juliet saw him, she told the nurse that he is cute and she thinks she fell in love with Romeo at first sight. When Romeo started to sneak out and see Juliet the would talk about how they like each other but Juliet is still be cautious because she doesn’t know if they are going to feel about each other overnight, but the…
In Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues leads to envy and many secrets. Romeo and Juliet see each other in secrecy without the families knowing of their relationship. The discrimination between the houses, and the lack of hope between the fake lovers caused confusion between Romeo and Juliet. The decisions to commit suicide by Romeo and Juliet were fueled by anger, lust, and haste.…
The learning is a insatiable curiosity that drives a individual to absorb everything he or she reads, hear or sees. Learning is process by which information is acquired, retained and reproduced when necessary. Learning involves understanding the world by reinterpreting knowledge. There are various ways of learning that are used by the individuals to acquire knowledge. Neil Fleming developed and perfected the art of visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic (VARK) learning. This method makes user understand their learning style. Context has been a major faction contributing to the way Romeo and Juliet was written. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Baz Luhrmann produced a Romeo and Juliet with a modern context rather than an Elizabethan context. Context has influenced the language and representation of ideas throughout Romeo and Juliet, notably with the themes: Loyalty Vs. Disloyalty, Power and inequality. These themes have changed the way Romeo and Juliet was written and put them into a different context.…
Furthermore, it is in order to strengthen the theme of forbidden love that Sater, once again chose to quote Shakespeare. For instance, when Wendla learnt that she was pregnant she sang the song ‘’whispering’’ (81), which was a direct reference to Romeo and Juliet. By referring to this play of youthful passion, Sater clearly wants to emphasize the forbidden love between Wendla and Melchior. A second example of forbidden love in the play is the incest between Martha and her father. After having admitted to her friends that she was being sexually abused by her father, Martha refused to talk about it to anyone one else, being too scared of the possible outcomes. Indeed, this feeling of fear is apparent in the song “The Dark I know Well”, where she sings “God, it’s good-the lovin’- aint it good tonight? / […] It’s just you and me. / Child you’re a beauty. / There is a part I can’t tell/ about the dark I know well.” (46). Indeed, being sexually abused by someone as close as a father is really shameful for a child. Clearly, this shame is part of what prevents her from telling her story to the authorities. The theme of forbidden love that is seen here along with the theme of shame is also later…
Romeo and Juliet showcases the importance of having all the facts in a situation before making a decision when Romeo made the illogical decision to kill himself without knowing all of the facts on what happened to…
Death always tends to grasp people's attention, especially the deaths of children just like in Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. For the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet, the Families, Friar Lawrence, and Fate all played a part. First, the Capulet Family pushed Juliet to get married without considering how she felt, as well as Friar Lawrence, who planned for Juliet to fake her own death by giving her the potion. Although, they are only partially to blame, ultimately, Fate is the most to blame for both the children’s deaths due to Romeo and Juliet being destined to be together. Because of this, there is no way they could have avoided this tragic incident.…
As you can see the parents of both Romeo and Juliet, deserve the blame for the deaths of their kids. Through forcing juliet into a marriage, never knowing their kids, and always being in an everlasting feud; this drove these kids to commit suicide. If only they could’ve been closer to their parents, if they weren’t enemies, or if they didn’t threaten their own kids, Romeo and Juliet would have been honest with them. If honesty was an option in this story, Romeo and Juliet never would have…
Romeo- Romeo's name is in the title, a pretty good hint that he's important. His name is also the final word in the play, and he does seem to undergo some sort of change, from lusting after the unavailable Rosaline to being in l-o-v-e with Juliet. So it's definitely arguable that the play is the story of Romeo's relationship with Juliet, rather than the other way around.…
In the conclusion of “The Death of Romeo and Juliet” is that never keep secrets from your parents because it will and can catch up to you in the long run. Also, don’t always trust your…
To begin, one of the first main events in the play was Romeo going to the Capulet party, where he falls in love with Juliet. The Capulet servant explains, “Now I'll tell you without asking. My master is the great rich Capulet; and if you be not of the house of Montagues, I pray, come and crush a cup of wine” (I.ii.4). In other words, the servant wants Romeo to come to the party ,but he is aware he can’t because of the family feud. This is an example of secrecy because we know that Romeo is going to go to the party even though he is a Montague. Since Romeo is in fact a Montague, if he goes he will have to hide his identity, which he does. To be specific, romeo,”Puts on a mask” (I.iiii.1). To clarify, Romeo and his group of friends are on their…
