SEGWAY In 2001, Dean Kamen announced the arrival of the first self-balancing, zero emissions personal transportation vehicle: the Segway® Personal Transporter (PT). Founded on the vision to develop highly-efficient, zero-emission transportation solutions using dynamic stabilization technology, Segway’s research and development was focused on creating devices that took up a minimal amount of space, were extremely maneuverable and could operate on pedestrian sidewalks and pathways. In 2006, the second generation Segway PTs was introduced. All the products feature breakthrough LeanSteer™ technology and a wireless InfoKey™ controller that enhance the Segway experience by making the ride even more intuitive and adding new and useful functions. Today, Segway continues to develop safe, unique transportation solutions that address urban congestion and pollution and leverage our in-house expertise. No matter the platform, our products allow you to experience more with less. (Segway.com)

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Companies in a variety of different industries have realized the benefits of integrating Segway personal transportation PT into their business operations. Organizations are using Segway PT to create visibility, enhance productivity and save money; when you are riding a Segway PT, you “get moving.” The PT gives you freedom to travel indoors and out.
Weakness
The weakness for Segway’s human transporters is primarily laws which restrict legal riding areas, such as, sidewalks or streets. Different states vary in laws and regulations on having the transporters on the roads or sidewalks; and being a new product in the marketplace, it will take some time for these laws to change. Another weakness which promotes slow and restricted growth is its cost. Purchasers find the PT’s price to be expensive for a new product although they like the benefits and innovativeness. The question on where they would be driven is excellent. If they wanted to make Segways a new way to travel, they would probably have to design roads or pathways for them. I do not believe that they are fast or safe enough at all to be on the road with cars. All they would do is cause traffic jams and other catastrophes that we deal with enough of on the roads today. If Dean Kamen truly wanted to change the world with the Segway, I think he should have approached it with a different…

Automobiles have transformed from the clunky build and gas guzzling engine to sports cars and very efficient engines that can get up to 40 miles per gallon. A new type of technology has developed over the recent years and can possibly change the automobile industry for good: electric-driven vehicles. The start of the electric-driven vehicle began with the grandma grocery getter at the store, toy cars, mo-pads, motorized scooters, and wheel chairs. In the early 20th century, battery powered vehicles were very popular until combustion engines took over the industry with the booming…
