Seize the Opportunity
Have you ever seen the movie “YES MAN” with Jim Carrey. I believe most of you do, which is one of my favorite movie. in this movie, Jim Carrey goes to this motivational seminar which teaches that you have to say ‘Yes’ to everything in life, and this will open unimaginable doors. So, Jim Carrey starts to say ‘Yes’ to everything and he starts to have all these amazing experiences and learns so many different .He got a promotion for his job, he find a girlfriend, and of course it’s a happy ending. Movies always come from reality, but it beyond reality. I think blindly saying yes to everything is not such a good idea, it will open opportunities and also might put you in trouble, so It’s easy to see many plots in this movie are not gonna happen in our life, but it still give us an important idea, which is having a positive attitude to every opportunity can bring success to you. We couldn’t live like a yes man say yes to everything, but we can use the following skills to seize the opportunity, which are say “yes” more often, have a positive attitude , take more risk. First of all, it’s impossible to say “Yes” to everything, but you could almost certainly say “Yes” to more than you do. When your friends invite you to join them to do something they like, and that you’ve never tried, what would you say. Do you take the chance to try it, or do you just put them down because you are too busy to do something else .If the first time human being saw the fire, and not try to make a fire, I guess we wouldn’t exist in this planet today. We all have potential, and potential is possibility. the only way to increase possibility is to learn more knowledge , to see more things, and to make more choices. So, let’s try it. Say “Yes” to something you would normally turn down. Try different food, try different music, have a conversation with different type of people. If you are shy, take guy way’s public speaking class. If you are noisy, try to be quiet and learn something from other.

John Krumboltz once said, “You have control over your own actions and how you think about the events that impact your life. None us can control the outcomes, but your actions can increase the probability that desired outcomes will occur. There are no guarantees in life. The only guarantee is that doing nothing will get you nowhere.” (Krumboltz, 46). In this short exert from his book titled Luck is no Accident, 10 Ways to get More out of Work and Life, Krumbolz discusses the importance of making the most out of opportunities that may seem little or pointless, and that happiness doesn’t depend on any external conditions, but instead, it is governed by our mental attitude. Throughout my life, I have only had a few jobs because I didn’t start working until I was almost 18, but I have always strived to have the best attitude when working. My first job ever was at Coldstone Creamery, and there were many times that I had to deal with people that were rude and inconsiderate. Krumbolz talks about controlling what you can, and letting go of what you can’t, which is exactly what I tried doing when working there and dealing with these kinds of people.…

It is our fear of failing or looking foolish in front of others that keeps us from being who we want to be.…

There were multiple positive effects of the American Industrialization. For example, a technology that came out of the Industrial Revolution was mass production caused work to be cheaper because they didn't need to pay skilled artisans to make the clothes and the machines made the clothes faster. Another reason is how it created thousands of jobs, because there were the need for less skilled workers and thousands of people to run and check that the machines are working properly. The factories also improved the lives of multiple people by making the fancier products cheaper and more affordable for almost all classes of life this let the common man be able to have more luxuries. Humans over a period of time become selfish, greedy, and uncaring. But if you strip a man of all these things, you get something truly remarkable. The result is the pure innocent hearts and minds of mankind’s most honorable group, the child. In “What Happened During the Ice Storm” a short story by Jem Henyen, we find several farm boys covering a group of pheasants with their jackets in a selfless act of kindness. It’s an icy storm winter and the adults are fending for themselves; it’s the children who end up being the bigger people by tending to the chickens by providing comfort with the warmth of their jackets. The boys are in a time of innocence, a time before adulthood and responsibility where the world is fair, greed isn’t a word, and be it man or chicken, in their pure little hearts they both deserve warm jackets.…

Do you know someone rich and famous? Is he confident, popular, and joyful all of the time—the epitome of mainstream success? Or, on the other hand, is he stressed, having second thoughts about his life choices, and unsure about the meaning of his life? I am willing to be that it is the second one. Mainstream marketing and media have effectively brainwashed our society into accepting a false, even potentially dangerous definition of success. Marketers want us to believe that having lots of money, living in a big house, and owning all of the latest cars, fashions, and technology is the key to happiness, and hence, success. This overstated, falsely advertised myth is hardly ever the case in real life. True success requires respect, appreciation, integrity, and patience—all of which are traits that by human nature are genuinely difficult to attain—especially in the face of modern marketers who relentlessly deceive us, control our thoughts, and usurp our independence in order to increase their bottom line.…

I think that most people try to live in accordance to a well-defined pattern that is fixed by the mass-media. For instance, we have to be good at school, than we should enroll in a prestigious university, get a well-paid job. But despite these seemingly positive directions, there is a number of negatives. All of them can be seen in films. We can notice as young people smoke, drink alcohol, and spend most of their free time partying, as they are too concerned about their appearance, even loose their virginity being very young, then marry but all this just seems to be OK. In real life “Happy ends" do not occur as often as on the TV-screen.…
