The literature reviewed showed researchers agree that the SM disorder is noticed when the child first starts school because of the child's lack of verbal communication in the classroom and with their peers (Wong, 2010).
However, Information was lacking on how much knowledge teachers have about the awareness of identifying the SM child and teaching strategies used in the classroom to support the SM child. This study’s goal is to determine how much training teachers have had and needed to help children effectively with Selective Mutism in their classroom. The use of the quantitative method will allow for a broader study and a larger number of participants thus improving the rich overview of the results. Quantitative research involves variables and includes a set of procedures to guarantee, as much as possible, validity and reliability and the research can be replicated, analyzed and comparisons made by other studies that are similar (Babbie,
2010).
