Selene Yeager Getting Into The Grove Summary
Dancing is a widely known exercise method that many people find both fun and healthy. In her article, Getting Into The Grove, Selene Yeager lists the benefits of dance to one’s health that may be typically unmentioned. Everyone knows that dance exercise is an excellent cardio workout and flexibility trainer, but Yeager attempts to inform the reader of the benefits that one may not already know. She lists off advantages such as mood improvement, organ protection and brain training, explaining each in somewhat shallow detail. Yeager informs the reader that dancing for 20 minutes a day can ease the aging process, improve memory, coordination and focus, as well as strengthening bone structure in the body, providing adequate data on the topics from varying studies. She finishes the article with a few superlatives, if you will. She provides a very small list of the best dance genres for different fitness and health goals, such as mood boosting and burning calories. …show more content…
I’ll start with the title and it’s misleading message. The title is Getting into the Groove: The Benefits of Dance, which implies that it will list the extensive health benefits of dance in the fitness aspect. I chose this article because I choose to spend my time at the gym dancing, as I feel it helps my flexibility and stamina along with being a great calorie burner, but what I read was not at all what I expected to read, nor wanted to read. Yeager mentioned boosted bone strength, which was news to me, but her other points seemed obvious and unnecessary. The only data I found interesting was a statistic involving extremely high percentages of dementia prevention in coordination with dance
