Reflection essay
I have learned a lot of things about myself as a writer in this semester discourse term/class. Learning new ways and styles to write different kinds of papers was a good thing to add to my education and work experience. Some of the things that I have learn about myself as a writer are good and bad. A couple of good things that I learned about myself as a writer is that I was able to gain an experience on how to organize my ideas and getting them down on paper. I have also noticed that I got good at getting a working theme going on while making my writing unique while in times provoking or emotionally inspiring to a reader. I had shared some of my work with a close friend before turning it in a couple times with my rough drafts and got a couple comments on what she thought before and after reading it. writing may have provoked her to have a fresh new perspective and new ideas I thought a success for me. How readers or my classmates reacted to my work was kind of scary at first because I was kind of pressured I didn’t have a college presentable paper or writing skills. A couple of things that I need to work on in the future as a writer is that I need to focus on how to create a stronger thesis for my written work. I noticed that at times they are not clear or they need a lot of work. I think I’m not a good writer when it comes to using good or more appropriate choice of words. As a writer I can never seem to come up with better vocabulary words. I say that if I could do that as a writer I would come off as a little more smart when choosing better word choice the work I produce could be and have better crafted sentences. The thing that I learned about writing is that MLA is very important and I haven’t got the whole concept of how to properly cite sources so I won’t be plagiarizing. That’s what I need to work on throughout college because it is very important. Another thing that I learned about writing is that it helps to create an outline first before of how you’re going to organize topics. Creating outlines and brainstorming is really helpful in my opinion. I learned that when I did that sentences and paragraph went more smoothly. Another thing that I need to work on as a writer is to avoid repeating myself I tend to do that a lot but mostly more in writing. I think that I need to come up with more details and find more information and just going to back to what I first wrote. If it’s not that I tend to lose focus on my topic and go all over the place. Some times that can affect the style of my writing and make it bad. And lastly well I already mentioned it is my vocabulary but also grammar.
I had a little history doing analysis from high school papers but I feel that in this course I got a different perspective on it and improved a little on it.
The kinds of readings were a higher reading level was at times more challenging and at time it was hard to comprehend the concept or what they were talking about. Even if the reading was a higher level to comprehend I think that it’s was a good way to measure my critical thinking skills. My critical thinking skill in writing were not expressed to the max or used in all the ways I would of liked or sometimes I feel that I wasn’t able to express myself as much. The thing that I got out of it was being able to separate facts that I comprehended the conclusion authors were presenting. The thing that I got from this term that really interested me was writing a blog on an argument being presented. I liked the fact that I was able to look for my own sources and found a way to make it my own by the form that I decided to create it. I learned that using an argument to persuade the reader to either change or rethink on the perspective. I thought that was pretty
interesting.
I’ve been using reading as a tool to get through life and so far I have been able to manage. But in this course and throughout all of my semester classes the reading level increased. I got a different type of perspective on it. In the types of readings that we had to read I learned that I had to takes notes as I went so I would be able to go back and recall what I read. I noticed that when I didn’t I would get done reading and would totally forget everything that I had previously read. I think that only happens to me. It may not but sometimes it makes me mad because I don’t comprehend what I’m reading. Reading in this discourse class made me realize that I can take things away from my readings and include it in my own work but having to cite things has been a little difficult for me.
I really enjoyed this discourse class. I think that I did my best and learned a lot from it. Even though I didn’t really get to socialize or make new friends I say it was a pretty good experience. The second thing that I enjoyed the most was doing presentations in front of the whole class. I really need more experience in doing that because I tend to stutter a lot. The biggest thing that I got from this course is that I found out that I no longer interested in the healthcare field. I noticed that it really doent interest me and so I decided to change to business.
