Self Reflective Essay: Self Analysis
On the self-assessment inventory, I scored between 76 and 88 out of 100 on each key competency except for the Change and Across Cultures competencies. My scores were within the numerical range for 68% of managerial professionals that completed this self-evaluation. For the most part, I see myself as very good on a number of the skills such as balancing my personal and work life, embracing uniqueness, supporting the goals of a team, and making ethical business decisions. For the Across Cultures competency, I am lacking in global experience and the skills to recognize the differences of various cultures and customs. In addition, I need to improve on recognizing, leading, and implementing adaptations when needed by teams and organizations.
I agree with this assessment because my communication and ethics skills are my strengths. In my current position, we use e-mail and written communications for day-to-day operations, and I am good with engaging in written communications effectively, identifying and troubleshooting problems, and replying with written resolutions as well as written instructions. I also believe I am good at interpreting nonverbal communications such as facial expressions and body language of other team members. I have

While I am open to different cultures, I do not have the personal experience in this area. I believe I need to educate myself on cultures and customs, so I can improve my knowledge and find real world opportunities to work with other nations and cultures. I scored lower on the Self Competency and the Change Competency because I need to improve on preparing and providing leadership in the process of a planned change. Additionally, I need to work on continuing to challenge myself by setting new goals and pursuing feedback from mentors and leaders, so I can grow as a

By utilizing four steps, I can effectively write an essay on the topics assigned during this program (Bethel, 2015). The first step is developing a clear point and is followed by supporting ideas. I plan to use quick notes to get my ideas down and make sure I need them. Next I need to organize my ideas to explain how I arrived at my thesis. Finally, I need to proofread my writing to omit any grammar or writing mistakes. These steps can help my writing be more concise and improve over time.…

This was a really eye opening experience. The inventory got me thinking about many different aspects and how I learn and approach different problems and situations. The implication is that the different selfs (physical, emotional, social, critical, creative, and passionate) affect how you learn. In some situations you might be more confident in yourself than others. However, after you complete the self profile it is not really well defined about what the term survival, maintenance, and enhancement means. I can deduce that the survival means that I am just getting by, the maintence means I am trying but have to work at it, and enhancement means that I have mostly mastered that portion of myself. This would open up a discussion with the support team as to what your strengths and weaknesses are. I know for myself by thinking about the questions, it made more aware and as I go into a situation, I might think differently about how I approach the…

First my strengths from the report showed that I am aware of my own strengths and weaknesses and able to perceive others emotions well. While this result isn’t overall that surprising I then noticed I scored low in the areas of Emotional Identification, Perception, and Expression and Emotional Management. After studying the results further I discovered that although I can interpret my own and others emotions well I struggle at dealing with emotional situations overall which is a very accurate statement of my personality as I have always shied away from approaching emotional situations both in my personal and work life. I think that this assessment has shown me that I need to be more assertive, also one of my weaknesses, and not be timid about using my gut instincts which typically are correct about emotions and become more vocal in emotional situations. Both the emotional intelligence and MBTI reports have shown that my weakness lies in not using my emotional understanding to solve problems and that I rely on my analysis and details too…

The abilities an individual possesses are an accumulation of their previous life experiences and the various competences which have been practiced for many years. Often times, these skills are overlooked and taken for granted as we never actually think about them in terms of their effect on our potential career choices. After thinking about my personal skills, I compiled a list which included; communication, cooperation, patience, listening, helping others and perseverance; all skills which I have possessed for majority of my lifetime and have used to overcome many challenges. One example in particular which required me to draw on many of these skills, was fairly recently; I am a dance instructor for children ages four to seven and there was a young boy who joined the class later than the rest of the students. I noticed that he was struggling…

These are the communication competencies that I feel strong because I feel that I already have an exposure to many diverse cultures. When I was still in the military, criticism is always part of my job. At first, I took those feedback personally that I couldn’t concentrate in my work. I felt like I was being judged. But then realized, that those opinions really matter and improved my overall communication with my superiors and junior personnel. The military offers many types of culture, talents and intelligence, and being exposed to this type of setting was very overwhelming. I made sure that I apply my own culture teachings when I make my decisions. I always relate my situations to other people that way it is unbiased and fair.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

I prefer to be true to myself, even at the endangerment of finding the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and finding my own detestation. Why should I worry about what others think of me? I don’t give a shit about how others perceive my personality because to begin with, I know myself and I also know my own demons — in which, at the outset, are just conventional behaviors of an ordinary human being.…

My strengths were in the areas of “Presence Cognitions” and “Consequence Cognitions”. Presence Cognitions is “…being aware of how the other person is reacting to a conversation; knowing when to recognize others’ negative reactions or resistance, changing the subject, etc.” (Lewicki, Duran, & Spitzberg, 1995, pp. 259-275). This section yielded my highest score of 23 out a possible 20. Consequence Cognitions is “…being aware of the consequences of your communication performance; thinking about how others might interpret what you said, understanding the effects of your communication on others, etc.” (Lewicki et al., 1995, pp. 259-275). I will continue to…

As I write this journal, I sit in a coffee shop and feel that sitting in a coffee shop to reflect on my week is so soothing. I find that moments like this are what helps me keep sain. Moments like this are helpful to me,as I get to sit in a coffee shop and listen to my favorite music, after a long day. I admit continuing to write journals is not easy for me, as reflecting on my week can be challenging. An example, this week was good and no concerns arise. In comparison to other difficult weeks I previously had. This week I even had a hard time thinking of what to write but I push myself to complete it. I feel that this week was very calm for me, which I am so thankful for. As the past weeks were so stressful, due to having several crises…

This was beneficial as it showed me that I have more self-awareness that I thought and I was thinking of it in a broader sense rather than my strengths and weaknesses as a worker. For professional judgement and reasoning ability, I gave myself a low score due to the fact that I didn’t feel like I did this much and didn’t handle the situation well independently. I felt that her rating of good was too generous though she did acknowledge that there were limited opportunities for me to do this. I believe moving forward this ability will grow with more experience in the…

I think sometimes when it comes to identify a particular essay or a paper that we wrote in previous assignments we will most of time find that they all had their own obstacles and difficulty’s in the process of writing them. It seems that when we finish with an assignment we think that that might have been the hardest paper we had to write about, but then comes other challenge or a paper and then we think that the old one was easy and doable. For example this semester we had to deal with these types of essays that had their challenges: Brief Literacy narrative, Commentary, Dual perspectives research, and the researched argument paper. The most essay or assignment that I had the most difficulty with is the commentary essay. Since it was commentary and I could write about the topic that I wanted and not having to do any Reacher on it, I felt comfortable and was not focused on the important steps of the writing process like; the organizing, formatting, run-ons, the word choice and so on. I had trouble with punctuation, the commas going inside the quotes in the MLA formatting, and couple of run-ons here and there, and last…

I have been a student at Americus-Sumter High School for four semesters, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned more than I thought possible. I came to this school already knowing that I wanted to be an Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU) nurse; I have taken two out of three nursing courses and though I knew exactly what I was headed for-was I ever wrong. Going through the nursing program has taught me so much more than stuff about medical terminology, it has taught me how to eventually grow into being a great nurse. I have learned here how to write med-terms and, how to think in critical situations. Most importantly I have learned how important patients and conditions are.…
