Self Reflection In Nursing

I cared for my patient on 11/06 on P5 room 10. I was given report from the leaving nurse about my patient shortly after I got on the floor. The nurse that I was assigned to was from the ICU and she was a floating nurse for that day. My patient was an 8 week old baby boy who came into the hospital on 11/03 for failure to thrive. During the report, the nurse showed us where the position of NG tube on the patient. After the report, the nurse and I did a whole physical assessment, and vital on the patient. First the nurse did the physical assessment while I was doing the vitals, then we switched and I did the vital and she did the physical assessment. I thought it was very nice that we did it together because it showed how well I was able to do vitals and
I talked with the father about my patient’s condition last night. He mentioned that he was up with the patient last night while the patient’s mother went to Ronald McDonald’s house to rest. After the patient was fed, he went to sleep and his parents continued on with their television. Afterward, I went and charted in the computer. While I was charting, the nurse asked me to get the patient’s weight. I had to take all of the patient’s clothes and diaper off before I weighted the patient. The patient’s weight slightly gained since yesterday. Right before 11, the team members did their rounds. I was present while they were rounding. Their goal was for the nurse to help educate the parents to provide a well-balanced diet and educate proper use of the NG tube before discharging. An unclear date for discharge not determine yet. Throughout the day, I felt that I learned a lot. Before this clinical, I did not know what failure to thrive means, but after working with this patient, I understood the condition of his problems. I also learned how to feed a baby with a NG tube by using gravity. I felt that I am learning and growing each day with new
