As a quiet, chubby, ten year-old boy, I enrolled in the Aces 4-H club. In January of 2009, my mind raced with excitement as our fair pigs birthed from their mothers. That January, venturing to my aunt and uncle’s farm, just northwest of Petersburg, became a constant weekend affair. Following my uncle Brad and Cousin Brett around, I watched and helped with the daily tasks on the farm, along with giving our fair pigs Baytril, Iron, and Spectoguard shots. While showing pigs, the most important thing I have learned is how to put everything together in the challenging process of creating the perfect pig. This has not only taught me to be a good showman, but it has taught me values I will use for the rest of my life. It has taught me patience, hard work, and bettering my people skills as the real world nears. I plan to take the crucial points I have learned growing up, and past them down to my future kids and students, in the best way I possibly can. I can only hope showing pigs will affect more kids in the way it has greatly affected
