With technology on the rise and an increased experience from the past there is now a confusing array of choices that the pregnant mother has to deliver her baby (Harding, 2003). These models affect the type of care she receives, the location of her birth, the type of birth she endures, the people that surround her and also the care her baby will receive in an emergency. The social, emotional, spiritual and physical health determinants will all be affected relative to the model of care that is chosen. The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into the advantages and disadvantages of birth centers, specifically participating in group practice midwifery and analyse how this affects a pregnant mother’s holistic health and the babies. Group practice in birth centers are midwifery-based forms of care and provide many benefits including, continuity of care, excellent shared decision making and cost. However this model of care does pose some problems including the lack of pain medication and whether birthing centers are the safest option for both mother and child.…
Women’s health is a topic of actuality worldwide. Women from every nation are prone to follow their family traditions during their pregnancy and delivery of their babies. Sometimes these traditions leave both mother and babies in great danger. Upon assessment, those of the Haitian culture are often diagnosed as high risk cases when they seek prenatal care. The concept of “high risk” or “low risk” are based on observations, interviews, and interactions with people of a particular culture or group and statistics are used to compare them with other groups or cultures before drawing a conclusion. Analysis of Haitian women point out why they are considered as high risk during childbearing ages and inclusion of culture explain why midwifes often…

This interview is an information gathering type interview as the interviewer is gathering information on Steve Jobs and why he thinks his machine will change the future. The interview provided regarding Steve Jobs is a research interview and information gathering interview because of the following purposes of the information gathering interview:…
Last summer, I had the opportunity to be referred to Ms. Sharon Goldmacher by my long time family friend, Ms. Judith Williams. While talking to Judith I was introduced to Ms. Sharon Goldmacher. She started a full-service marketing PR firm specializing in brand development, product launch campaigns, media relations, as well as providing marketing, PR, and promotion services. We have met once, however, I never go to formally speak with her. The interview is mandatory in order to get information for my Basic Marketing Management class, but I ended up learning so much more than what was required. As expected, it was a great opportunity…
A research critique aims to measure the value and significance of a study. These are determined by analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the report (Brockopp & Tolsma, 2003, p. 400). Recommendations for areas of improvements are also included in a research critique. This paper critically appraises a qualitative research article titled "Women's perception of being pregnant and having pregestational diabetes" (Lavender, T., Platt, M. J., Tsekiri, E., Casson, I., Byrom, S., Baker, L., et al., 2010, p. 589-595).…
As an Accounting major, I am very interested and have become fond of learning about the varying business aspects within the sports industry. As a result, I decided to conduct my interview with a professional that is associated with the business operations of athletics. The person that I interviewed was Dawn Reynolds, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business and Finance here at the University of Miami. After initially getting in contact with Ms. Reynolds a few weeks ago, I was finally able to meet with her briefly and conduct my interview on November 30, 2010, in room 261 in the Hecht Athletics Center. Just to give a bit of background information about Ms. Reynolds, she is from Elmira, New York and now currently resides in Coral Gables, Florida. She graduated from the University of Miami with a major in Finance and started her career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where she worked for four years as their budget coordinator. As a past president of the College Athletics Business Managers Association, she was named the College Athletic Business Manager of the Year in 2003 and has since served on various committees including the ACC Finance Committee and chairs the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. She has worked with the University of Miami for the past 20 years and is currently the Chief Fiscal Officer for the Department and is a member of the executive management team. Below is a list of ten questions and answers from the interview I conducted:…

On November 18, 2012 at 1:00pm I interviewed Stephan Baldwin, a substance abuse counselor at Stephens Medical Hospital in Edmonds. The reason for this interview was for me to gather as much information in the substance abuse field as possible and the requirements needed for this type of position, and to expand my professional network. For a long time I have debated a career in business or psychology. If I chose psychology I would want to do something related to counseling, or even possibly be a psychiatrist. So I thought that interviewing someone in this position would help me understand if this was the kind of career I would be interested in.…
The status of women in the society and her health are intricately interrelated. The health of a pregnant woman is profoundly influenced by her circumstances, economic, and social status and the environment in which she lives (Priya, Ashok & Suresh, 2010).…

Structured interview is a specific set of questions that can be asked to any person to help diagnose an abnormal psychological disorder. Before I began my structured interview I read through the set of questions to get the flow of the interview. I also tried to imagine what a person might hold back about and made some side notes on how I would try to encourage the patient to give more information. I have not given many formal interviews such as the structured interview. If I were to become a clinician I would probably prefer the unstructured format. However I did learn several things about clinical interviews and there were things that I did and did not like. In the following paragraphs I will describe my trial experience.…
Since the study focuses on human experiences, it is appropriate to use the semi structured interview as a means of collecting subjective data. Participants were 20 pregnant women in their first trimester and still contemplating on nuchal translucency screening. Polit and Beck (2006) argue that phenomenological studies usually use 10 or less people to serve as a sample. Hawthorne and Ahern’s sample contradicts having 10 more. The interview process took place on each of the participants’ homes for about 70 minutes. Some were interviewed in their workplace during lunch break. It could be argued that some interviews could be rushed and therefore may result in inaccuracy. Conducting an interview in a workplace also does not provide privacy and a decent environment and this may have irritated some of the respondents. Follow up interviews were also conducted which may indicate some of the respondents’ unwillingness to participate. Interviewers were also not described and training for the interviewers was also not mentioned. The semi structured interview starts off with the interviewers asking general and broad questions where the respondents come in and relate their own experience. The interviewers let them lead on, sharing past experiences, opening new aspects of the topic, and raising their own ideas on particular…
The sample from the data set shared in the paper provided 189 values with 10 different variables involving mothers and their newborn babies. The information was used to analyze the statistical data of the sample to identify low birth weight of babies and any relation to the other provided variables. The analytics were conducted through the use of two descriptive analysis tests, three hypotheses testing, and a multiple regression model. The descriptive analysis basically showed that the average age of the moms seemed to be around the age of 23. The descriptive analysis also showed that the majority of the moms weighed between 100 and 125-pounds at their last menstrual age. The descriptive analysis testing provided information, but how the information was relevant to the low birth…
