Senior Author Study Essay During the first two month, I read the two books by the same author. Robert Cormier. These two books name are I am the cheese and The rag and bone shop. I Am the Cheese is the story of a boy named Adam who is on a physical journey through New England and a mental journey through the past, revisiting his traumatic childhood and trying to uncover lost memories. The chilling book has three narrative threads. In the first, we meet Adam through his own first-person accounts; he is a teenager who is on a difficult journey, traveling by bike to meet his father in Vermont. In the second, we read transcripts of taped interviews of Adam and someone who seems to be a psychiatrist helping him recall his past. Adam seems terrified of what's happened in his past, though he's also scared of the gaps in his memory.Through these transcripts, we learn that while working as a journalist, Adam's father gathered evidence of widespread corruption and has testified before a secret government committee. As a result, his whole family was given new identities for their own protection.
The rag and bone shop is Robert Cormier’s final book.The story is of the brutal murder of a seven-year-old girl named Alicia Bartlett and the interrogation of a twelve-year-old boy, named Jason Dorrant, who is her friend and the last known person to see her alive. Trent, an expert interrogator, known to get confessions which seemed impossible to obtain and has never lost a case, is called in for the case. Trent does this "favor" to be in good graces with a senator.If you are looking for a light read that is enjoyed and then forgotten, The Rag and Bone Shop is not for you.It grows with rereading, the thematic connections and emotional spectrum expanding. Some books will only appeal to a narrow group of people. Robert Cormier’s book, The Rag and Bone Shop, is not one of those.
