Sensory processing disorder (SPD), is a sensory disorder that makes it difficult to process different sensations and stimuli. This disorder affects 5 to 16 percent of school age children nevertheless; it has yet to be recognized as a distinct neurological disorder. This is because; it has been associated with other mental disorders; if the disorder was recognized it was diagnosed as an underlying disorder to a different mental disorder. (Ben Sasson er al., 2007 & Bunin). A form of SPD is Sensory Modulation Disorder (SMD); this causes responses to be inconsistent with sensory stimuli (Miller et al, 2007). Sensory over-responsivity (SOR) is a tactile defense that can severely impact the lives of those affected with it.
