Problem: Salt, sand, wood chips, iron filings
Materials Needed: a magnet, water, a pot, clean flat surfaces, a burner, filter paper, a stirrer, and four beakers for each item in the mixture

Final Plan: To separate sand, salt, wood chips and iron filings First, use a magnet to remove the iron. Since some sand/salt will get caught with the iron filings, you may have to spread out the separated iron filings on cardboard and do a second and even a third separation to get just iron. The sand, salt and wood chips that were trapped with the iron can be added back to the to the original mixture. To separate out the salt, add boiling water
