Seven Pi Taus: A Short Story
Booker's head wrenched backward, the belt wrapped around his neck tightening alarmingly, causing him to choke. The buckle dug painfully into his larynx, and rearing up, his fingers grappled frantically at the strap that was slowly suffocating him. But when a rough hand grabbed his erect cock and squeezed callously, a strangled scream spilled from between his lips, and he obediently dropped back to all fours. With his neck muscles visibly cording from the strain, he stared wildly at the ceiling with panic-stricken eyes and wondered if it was Holland’s plan all along to asphyxiate him and dump his body in the desert. It wasn’t as far-fetched as it sounded, after all, dead men told no tales, and he had enough information to put seven Pi Taus …show more content…
It was his first day back at work, and after spending the last three days holed up alone in his apartment, the cacophony of noise assaulting his ears grated heavily on his frayed nerves. He longed to turn around and flee to the sanctuary of his home, but he knew if he did, it would raise suspicion amongst his captain and friends. The last thing he wanted was unwanted visitors turning up on his doorstep and asking him if he was okay and interrupting his solitude. Except, he wasn’t being entirely honest with himself. There was one person he wished would knock on his door, but that person appeared to have vanished into thin air. After explaining he had things to do, Booker had not made contact for four days, and during that time, Tom had gone through a full range of emotions. First he had experienced the loneliness of abandonment, and he had wallowed in self-pitying misery for an entire day, staring morosely at the door, waiting for the knock that would signal his friend’s arrival. Next came anger, and he had stomped around his apartment, loudly cursing Booker for being such an inconsiderate prick. But when Sunday morning dawned, worry replaced his anger, and he had spent the day pacing the floor, procrastinating over whether to call his friend or let sleeping dogs lie.

While on vacation, James was hoping to enjoy some downtime. In contrast, Tyrell seemed particularly keyed up the first few days. Rather than relaxing on the beach, Tyrell paced and seemed out of place among the happy vacationers. James made excuses for Tyrell’s agitated behavior, noting that it was difficult for many people to wind down after pushing so hard at work. The fourth night at dinner, Tyrell began berating a waiter who made a mistake in his order. Tyrell became uncharacteristically rude, suggesting that the waiter was not worth his time of day, and abruptly left the restaurant. James paid the bill and returned to the hotel only to find Tyrell out on the balcony of their room screaming, “Do you know who I am?!” at other guests. Becoming truly alarmed, James coaxed Tyrell back into the room and convinced him to take a walk to cool down. While Tyrell was gone, James wondered if his partner was “on something.” He went through Tyrell’s luggage and, upon finding some white powder, called Tyrell’s brother, Michael.…

Hall starts off with his headline by using emotive language. He uses the verbs ‘writhe and die’ to describe the death of Harris. The use of the ‘writhe’ to make the reader perceive an intense image of Harris wriggling and fidgeting while strapped to the chair, infers the ache and agony Harris felt before he died, just like his two teenager victims. The word ‘die’ is barely basic: involving no description just that he…

In the beginning, it had all started innocently enough. Last minute cancels in order to take Clarissa on a date, but he would make it up the next day. While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

“I felt the old rage of helplessness. But as for Chris – he gave no sign of feeling anything. He was sitting on the big wing-backed sofa curled into the bay window like a black and giant seashell. He began to talk to me, quite easily, just as though he had not heard a word my grandfather was saying. This method proved to be the one Chris always used in any dealings with my grandfather.…

It wasn’t the soft, ethereal glow of dawn’s early light peeping through the ill-fitting curtains that gently lured Tom from a restless night’s sleep. It wasn’t the promise of a new day, free from the nightmares that still plagued his tortured mind or the pleasing chirrup of the house sparrows greeting the sun with their morning song of joy. It was something more physical, something visceral, an inherent perception of a long-forgotten pleasure slowly rising from within.…

Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

The lingering light was immersed by the rapidly falling night. The once salmon, purple sky transformed into a vast expanse of jet-black that engulfed the whole town. Yet at the corner of the street, the house remained unchanged. Supported only by stilts, its shabby character inconsistent to the grace and elegance of its neighbours. Its door flung open and a large figure emerged under the flickering light juxtaposed by dark shadows, followed by ‘Don’t go Benjamin’. The sentimental tone evident in the melodious voice. But the arrogant figure departed blithely without regard for the tender values. ‘He shouldn’t have done that. Old wounds should never be reopened’, the old man whose eyes adamantly refused to leave the windowpane let out solemnly as though the times which he ran away from, caught up to him.…

In the film, Tom is working with his new boss, Ralph Hopkins, on a speech to bring awareness and action for mental health. All throughout history, depression and struggle remain taboo and silent. Even now, but alike the film, it is still a process and struggle. Today there are many resources and programs for those suffering from mental health, all of which spur from a similar mission to Ralph and Tom. In concordance with this, the film highlights not only mental health, but the effect of war. All throughout the film we are given bits of storyline to what Tom went through during World War II. We also view how Toms own mental health after the war effects his everyday life and family. This is an extremely relevant issue today. There are many veterans suffering from PTSD and other mental health issues due to post war trauma, and the need for sustainable intervention has never been more alive or…
