Abstract Development has generally treated sexuality as a problem - considering it only in relation to population control, family planning, disease and violence. However, sexuality has far broader impacts on people 's well-being and ill-being (Jolly S, Sexuality and development 2006). I am going to do an interview on a LGBT community member and disuses how sexuality effects their development. During the interview I will be asking three main questions to the member of the LGBT community. First question is going to be the LGBT member’s self-identify, and then I will ask about the society’s perception of their community and last will be asking the impact of same-sex marriage has had on the LGBT community. Those three main areas will complete my interview with the LGBT member.

Sexuality and Development The LGBT member self-identity is a women named Amanda White who I interviewed for this paper. Amanda is thirty three years old and has been a lesbian her whole life. Amanda says she can remember even far back as grade school when she remembers she was fascinated in a special way by a particular girl in her class. Amanda says her thoughts were not particularity sexual she was only eleven years old at the time. Amanda can say that she also remembers having thoughts about this girl and weather not if she thought she was cute. Amanda says she remembers when she would look at that girl that she did fell some kid of pleasure by doing so. Amanda said her self-identity was recognized at an early age of knowing she was a lesbian but did not know how to describe or even tell others about herself identity. It was the eighth grade when Amanda realized that she was not emotional and never had any sexual thoughts about any boy’s only girls. She had strong feelings for girls

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community is a community based on celebrating individuality, sexuality, pride, diversity, love, and acceptance. Also known as the gay community, LGBT people believe in promoting LGBT rights and fighting for social justice. UCLA School of Law (Gates, 2011) conducted four national studies and two-state-level population based studies. The results determined that there are approximately nine million adults in the United States that identify themselves as LGBT. Prehistoric findings show that the community has been a target for discrimination and persecution from individuals and groups that practice homophobia since 11th century BCE. Although today’s century has proven to improve the…

This alteration continues present. Why do viewpoints of people change ? According to Giddens, sexual development and sexual satisfaction henceforth became bound to the reflexive project of the self (1991,164) (Gauntlett, 2008, p.110). Another arguement of Giddens; once sex was seperated from reproduction, sexual plesure and variety could come to the fore. Meantime contraception had a direct influence on heterosexuality, it had knock-on homosexual relation and sexuality, as the idea of sexual pleasure in society became more open and less riddled with apprehension. Also, although in traditional socities the substantial function of reproduction was surely focused on heterosexual couples, in more modern times, once reproduction had come under human control, heterosexuality lost its supremacy (Gauntlett, 2008, p.116). Finally according to PewResearch Center’s survey; among young people in specific, there is broad support for social acceptence of homosexuality. More than six-in-ten (63%) of those young than 50- 69% of those younger than 30- say that homosexuallity should be accepted. But acceptence of homosexuality is 52% of those older than 50. Therefore the acceptence of homosexuality will increase in the…

We all as humans have sexual behaviors; it’s something that is a part of every one of us and part of our humanity. Sexual behavior is with you even before you are born, for example a fetus can actually express some sexual behaviors. These sexual behaviors are more likely to happen if the fetus is a male versus a female. These sexual behaviors start to arise when we are all in our infancy stage. The development of these behaviors continues through our age. One thing that male babies have are erections even before birth a unborn baby can have an erection. Baby girls experience something a little different. Baby girls start getting lubrication in their vaginal opening and also swelling. This also happens before birth. The ages that kids start showing pelvic thrusting is at about 8 to 12 months and begin to masturbate a few months after that. Kids while they are young experience sexual curiosity and behaviors and it’s a completely normal part of their growth and development. One specific game that children play is a kissing game, this kissing game involves sexual stimulus. In the adolescence stage which is ages 9 to 13 is when the child experiments with masturbation and is the top key sexual behavior at this age. The child will continue to show sexual curiosity and different sexual behaviors as they become older and go into the adult stage. At this stage the male and the female will experiment with mutual masturbation. Puberty also takes place, once puberty happens then reproduction is a possibility and something that can happen. During adolescence women start to menstruate. The body of a woman produces something called estrogen and with estrogen production it causes to form women body parts like breasts. Men produce something different, its called testosterone and this causes genital growth and other male behaviors. The number one outlet for sexual desires in the adolescence…

In America, beauty is associated with being young and having flawless skin and no wrinkles. A woman in late adulthood could look in the mirror and sees wrinkles, age spots, bags under her eyes, and sagging breasts; she might think she is not beautiful. What are older women supposed to do? Should they deny their sexuality because American society reveres youth? The youth obsessed American culture creates a stigma against the older adult, especially females since men are perceived as sexier with age. Once a woman can no longer bear children or loses her mate, people might think she becomes asexual. The truth is sexuality continues throughout the life span, but many women accept…

Becoming a gendered body child is very important in society. There comes a time in life when you get the opportunity to choose if the life you have been given is right for you. At times people have said you were born the way you are and others say no it’s a choice. Inside this article an experiment has been done to compare and gather information on how children develop, and their actions, along with body training, to help mold them into their assigned genders. The social problem that is being investigated throughout this article is quite complex to me. Basically they have chosen over 100 students, and 7 teachers that are divided into 5 different classes. Although some are in the same general area were their parents work, they may live, or go to church. The actual experiment is studying how the student’s behavior changes from hyper activity’s to strict ones. As well as how they interact with the others students during play time, dress up, groups activities, etc. They boys versus the girls, the boys verses the boys, and the popular verses the non-popular. Loud to the quite however you would like to look at it. Everything and everyone has been watched, for 6-8 months with detailed recordings and observation. Martin, Karin A. (1998). Becoming a gendered body: Practices of preschools. American Sociological Review, 63(4), p. 494-511.…

Due to the nature of the coming out process, there are fundamental challenges to learning the experiences of the LGBT population. Thesis Statement: The Gay Rights Movement dates back to the 19th century. By 1970 gay and lesbian organizations existed all over the United States and in other countries all over the world. Some supporters of the movement would say that our society as a whole has made great strides towards acceptance of homosexuality. However, gays and lesbians are still fighting for equality in 2009. The issues are vast and widespread, with same-sex marriage at the top of the list. In the world that we live in today one might be surprised to learn how many countries are accepting of gay and lesbians, as well as how many are not. The world has made progress within the last decade regarding this issue, but definitely not enough. We need to take steps to protect and balance Gay rights.…

As a pediatrician and urologist specializing in disorders of sexual development (DSD), my top priority is to ensure the best possible treatments and advice are given to my patients. Disorders of sexual development are conditions that affect the sexual development of humans. Patients afflicted with DSD are people who cannot neatly fit into our perceived sex notions of male and female. In some cases, these patients will request treatments that will lessen these afflictions. However, there are some cases in which the best course of action is not always clear. One such case involved a pregnant woman insisting that I treat her unborn child with high doses of the steroid drug Dexamethasone. This patient previously had a female child born with Congenital…

The gay community or LGBT community is a loosely defined grouping of LGBT and LGBT supportive people, organizations and subcultures united by common culture and civil rights movements. Furthermore, the remarkable growth of the gay community in recent history has revolutionized our culture and consciousness, creating radically new possibilities for people to “come out”, and live more openly as homosexuals. Before the early years, homosexuality was a taboo subject. Since then, times have changed and this community is somewhat being accepted. Moreover, this diverse community is constantly expanding, and consists of many types of people. The gay community has gained great attention in arts, entertainment, media, and politics. Most of the people that make up this community each have their own unique style in all different aspects.…
