Then, a year later, Fred’s brother, Sam, was born. He was stocky, with brown hair and green eyes. It is said that Sam completely ignored his first pancake and drank the syrup!

When the bandits showed up, they battled Carrie and Larry! However, the two guards were so good at their job, not only did they stop all of the bandits, but they captured them as well, and brought them to the local sheriff. The ingredients were successfully delivered, and Fred and Sam’s business lived on!
The year after that, in 1852, when Fred was twenty and Sam was nineteen, a crowd of thirty gold miners on their way to California stopped at the Flapshack. The sun was smiling down on the desert, making it extra hot, so the miners wanted to get fed quickly. Fred was about to start preparing the miners’ meal when he noticed Sam was missing. He asked Farmer Frank, Quickdraw Carry, and Lasso Larry (who were all visiting) if they had seen him, but they hadn’t. Fred was panicking. No matter how hard he tried, he could not make good syrup, and nobody likes dry pancakes!
Everyone was looking for Sam when Fred found him stuck in one of the many holes he dug in their backyard. He dug all of those holes to get gold Sam sniffed to pay for their ingredients. Fred helped Sam out, which was hard, because the hole was at least fifteen feet …show more content…
Then, he had an idea! He told Sam they could get the gold and feed the miners at the same time by making a giant pancake! He said that if the pancake was big enough, and he flipped it high enough, the pancake would make a giant crater, revealing the gold, and the miners would be so busy eating, they wouldn’t notice! After he finished talking with Sam, they got right to work. Fred got all of the batter from the house and spread it across the area that the gold was under. The desert sand was so hot, it cooked the pancakes like a stove! As he was doing this, Sam filled Farmer Frank’s entire wagon with amber (after Frank emptied it, of course) and stirred. Sam finished his syrup really quick and looked over at Fred’s giant pancake. It wasn’t ready yet, but it was almost done! Five minutes later, the pancake was ready to be flipped. Fred stuck his spatula under the pancake. He heaved as hard as he could, and flung his arms into the air. The pancake flew up so high, it blocked out the sun for a full minute! Then, the pancake began to fall. Sam positioned the wagon so the pancake would land on it, soaking up the syrup as it landed. The pancake came crashing down, and there was a deafening explosion! Everyone flew backwards and closed their eyes. When they opened their eyes, it was raining pancake bits and drops of
