Hooverville Chapter Summaries
The caseworker at the foster care tells Bud and his friend, Bugs at breakfast that they found new foster homes for them. When the boys groan the caseworker tells them, although the nation is in depression, they are lucky to have foster families.
Bud gets mistreated by his new foster brother named Todd. Todd shoves a pencil up in Bud's nose, and claims that he got the pencil further in his nose than any other child before. As a reason, Bud runs away or as he says he is "on the lam." Bud wants to slip through the windows into the library's basement to spend the night, but he finds that they have been barred. He gets frightened and gets his pocket knife out. Then he finds Bugs standing there. Both boys agree that they will head west for opportunity. They got informed, that they have to go to Hooverville, and wait for the train. When Bud and Bugs get there they flip a coin to see who has to go and talk to the people sitting there. Bud loses the coin toss and goes and talk. He asks if this is Hooverville, and the people reply which one. The man says there are many Hoovervilles. Then the people say that this is the right Hooverville if they are looking for a loving and caring place. The next morning the boys awakened by people screaming. Bud understands that the train is trying to leave earlier than expected. Bud and Bugs run through the crowds of the other people who also wanted to get on. By the time the boy squeeze through the crowd, the train starts moving. They run after the train and Bugs is barely able to hop on. Bud also tries to get on but isn't able to. He walks back to Hooverville with the others who missed the train. When he gets back to the village he finds the Flint police having a standoff with the people at

    One day before leaving work, Billy Coleman spots a Redbone Hound being attacked by a mob of dogs. He gets them away and taking the dog to his home nurtures him/her before letting him/her free. This makes Billy remember his childhood memories of his Redbone Hounds. Billy Coleman, along with his 3 sisters and parents, live on a farm in the heavily forested Ozark Mountains in the Great Depression. Billy’s dream is to own not one, but two Redbone Coonhounds, and train them to be the best hunting dogs in all of the midwest. His father tells him that he can’t have Coonhounds because they are very unstable financially and if he really wants them that bad, he needs to work for them himself. He then goes to his grandfather’s shop and is told that if he can save enough money, he will do the rest to get him his hounds. After two long years of dedication and hardwork, Billy finally has enough money to purchase his hounds and goes to his grandpa’s store. His grandfather gives him good news that the price has gone down and sends a happy Billy off with 10 extra dollars and some candy which he shares with his sisters. Billy travels to get his dogs, soon named Old Dan and Little Ann inspired by a tree and trains them to tree and catch raccoons with the help of his grandfather, his motivational figure because of his encouragement for Billy. His dogs become very good and enter in a competition in which they win but his grandpa also gets injured. The climax then occurs when Billy is out hunting with his championship hounds. They are assaulted by a mountain lion and Old Dan gives his life ( and entrails) to save Billy, who kills the mountain lion to “avenge” him. His mother tries everything she can to save him but it is no use and they bury Old Dan. Little Ann then loses the will to live and they bury her right next to him. Their family decides to move to the city because of all the money that they won in the competition and Billy goes to see his hounds…

Quickly, the lady was kissing Captain Underpants all over the face, wearing off the effects of the Captain Underpants' powers, turning him back into the mean, old principal. Rescuing the lady was a mistake for Captain Underpants because now he was losing his powers.
