Shakespeare Macbeth
In any Shakespeare play we can almost always point out foreshadowing. It’s a crucial element to tragedies and suspenseful stories, and very crucial to be able to understand when reading Macbeth by Shakespeare because the story of Macbeth is mainly composed of events that have been hinted one after another. Macbeth is about a soldier (Macbeth) who is told by three witches, prophecies. One that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and two, that Macbeth will be king of Scotland and three, that Banquo’s children will inherit the Scottish throne. The only way that Macbeth can think of a way to become king is to kill the current king, King Duncan. An example of foreshadowing in Macbeth is “There’s one did laugh in’s sleep, and one cried ‘Murder!”(2.2). After Macbeth murders the king, he hears this, which foreshadows Macbeths problem with sleep that are to be coming up in the play. That night that Macbeth kills the King, he also hallucinates, and he sees a bloody dagger which already shows that Macbeth is becoming hysterical. Macbeth knows what he has done is wrong and we can already start to see his mental state deteriorate. This quote shows how the murder of the King ultimately lead to Macbeth’s slip into insanity and his problems with insomnia throughout the play. Looking at the same excerpt, you can see that it is also an example of foreshadowing because Macbeth also mentions to Lady Macbeth that he though he “heard a voice cry ‘Sleep no more!”(2.2). which shows that he is going to have problems sleeping and it also is a sing of insanity. This also shows that he is going to continue hearing voices and how his mental state is seriously, going to get a lot worse throughout the play. We can see that Macbeth is already unstable as he is going to kill Duncan because of the discourse that he has with himself and then being forced to kill Duncan by Lady Macbeth are all causes for Macbeth’s poor mental state which we see worsen throughout the play. Macbeth is filled

This shows how brave Macbeth was, but it also shows how ruthless Macbeth can be. Once, Macbeth learns that he will be king in the future, he kills Duncan to become king, and anyone else that would get in his way. This is shown when, after Macbeth has killed Duncan and Banquo, he finds out he also needs to kill Macduff to keep the crown. Macbeth says, “Then live, Macduff; what need I fear of the thee? / But yet I’ll make assurance double sure, / And take a bond of fate. Thou Shalt not live;/ That I may tell pale-hearted fear it lies, / And sleep in spite of thunder” (Shakespeare 4:1 80-85). This shows that in beginning readers see Macbeth as this warrior for Scotland, but by the end, he is making sure that anyone in Scotland who may be a threat is killed. Lady Macbeth is another example that shows the theme appearance vs. reality. In front of guests and King Duncan, she is very polite and nice, but when she is by herself or with Macbeth, she has no soul. This is shown when she says, “Come, you spirits / That tend on…

Throughout the work Macbeth, Macbeth shows symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia such as hallucinations, lack of sleep, paranoia, and bizarre erratic behavior. The disorder is primarily brought on by the guilt Macbeth feels due to the murders he commits. He begins to show signs before he assassinates Duncan, which begins with him envisioning the dagger (II I 40-69) before the murder of Duncan. Macbeth’s schizophrenia induced paranoia causes him to make decisions that put his country in jeopardy and causes his supporters to quickly turn against him and cause a rebellion which ultimately leads to his death.…

Macbeth is portrayed throughout the play as an antihero, a noble and a valiant military man who’s affected by the power of knowledge and is drifted down a path of deceit and murder. The knowledge given to Macbeth from the witches "All hail Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail Macbeth that shalt be the king hereafter!" This foreshadows how Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor, and king. The effect of this foreshadowing is to start Macbeth's ambition to achieve this honour, the knowledge presented to him causes this to end badly. A similar scene which portrays the symbolism of fate, is when the witches tell Macbeth ‘he cannot be killed by any man born of woman’, as this prophecy ends up becoming true, foreshadowing how Macbeth will die; it’s ironic that Macbeth believing himself to be invisible and undefeatable is what sets him on a tragic course which ultimately leads to his death.…
