1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role.
As a professional child carer, my day-to-day role adheres to the CACHE values, by ensuring that the child is at the centre of my practice, and their needs are paramount [Bruce & Meggitt, 2012]. It is my role therefore to use the right skills and attitudes to create a safe, happy, positive, stimulating, multicultural learning environment in which children are cared for. I intend to achieve this by:
- Respecting the principles of confidentiality. Confidentiality is the preservation of priviledged information concerning children and their families, which is disclosed in the professional relationship. It is a complex issue, which has at its core the principles of trust. The giving and receiving of sensitive information should be subject to a careful consideration of the needs of the children and their families.
- Commitment to meeting the needs of children; the needs and rights of all children are paramount and the early childhood practitioner must seek to meet those needs within the boundaries of the work role.
- Responsibility and accountability in the workplace: the supervisor, line manager, teacher or parent will have certain expectations about my role, and my responsibilities should be detailed in the job contract. As a professional I need to carry out all my duties willingly as detailed in my job contract.
- Respect for parents and other adults: it is an important part of my professional role that I respect the wishes and views of parents and other carers, even when I may disagree with them. I am also aware that parents are usually the people who know their children best and therefore show them that I respect their cultural values and religious beliefs.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other professionals: I understand how important effective communication in the workplace is, and as a child carer, I
