When Michael was a young boy, he was taken away from his mother by child services, then separated from his brother. Every time Michael got placed with a new family he would leave and go back to his mother causing them to deem him a “runner.” Michael would always return to his mother because that was what he felt was right. Even as a child he would be patient with his mother even when she would resort to drug use. At first, Michael would scream and cry when they took him away then he would be sent to a different family but still he would go back home because that was where his mama was. Eventually he had to live on his own and she wouldn't be anywhere in sight but he would still look for her and take care of her and protect her. When Leigh Ann was asking Michael about his mother he simply said, “She probably moved to a nicer place.” He said this to protect her from people's judgment of her and her image. This shows that after the incident as a kid it made Michael kind and caring and especially protective. A quality that later led him to his success in the…

Michael, on the other hand, did not seem to have any faults, at first. Then when he starts telling Frances about all the different types of girls he likes to watch. He does not see anything wrong with the way he acted. It started to seem like Michael really did spend too much time watching other girls. Then he stated that, in a way, he wanted all the girls he looked at. Michael, to me, was acting very foolish and immature. He was acting like a child in a candy store without any money; looking at all the different kinds and wanting each and every one…

It occurs that he used to know the old owners of the house that Ian now lives in, George and Edie Higham.[7] Through the story it seems more and more clear to the reader, that Michael is a very lonely old man, who has been abandoned by his friends and family: “”I should have been at the wedding but I wasn’t allowed to go.””[8], “(Ian on the…
