Shirley Chisholm's Speech Equal Rights For Women
Shirley Chisholm's speech,” Equal Rights for Women”, is about equal rights for women. When a women graduates and looks for a job she is most likely going to be asked “ Do you type?” as the first question in an interview. This is prejudice due to men thinking women can only be secretaries and librarians while men are managers and administrators. The term happy little homemaker and contented old darkey are also prejudice as they assume that one person is happy in their position when they might not be. Shirley also states that even though there are about 2.5 million more women in the U.S than men, they only hold 2% of managerial positions. Women have also never been on the AFL-CIO council or Supreme Court. This means that no women have ever
held a high position in the government except twice in the president's cabinet. Shirley mainly thinks that women do not have the equal rights as men and also do not need special protection that men don’t need.
