Dana Struffert/Bullying has many serious consequences for all of the people involved. These effects can range from depression to suicide for the victim, and they are not the only ones impacted. Convictions occur among bullies along with other problems they encounter because of their actions. Bystanders often suffer from serious effects too, caused by witnessing the bullying.
The victims of bullying are greatly impacted by what happens to them. Whether they are being bullied by a clique or just one person, the effects can be very harmful. One of the worst possible outcomes to bullying is suicide. In fact, 20% of people surveyed in the British Retrospective Bullying Survey done in 2014 had attempted suicide after being bullied and that is a startling statistic. Depression and anxiety are also very serious effects on the victim. They may also feel more anger, have a greater chance of becoming ill, have difficulty trusting people, and suffer from low self esteem. Bullies are also affected by bullying in the long term, and the effects can be just as serious. Long term effects are often more serious than the list of short term effects. These often include substance abuse, which is the abuse of alcohol tobacco and drugs such as marijuana. It is a fact that bullies have some additional risks, having 4-5 times the increased risks for a personality disorder. This can cause lack of sympathy and empathy, lying and criminal behavior.
