Stepping out of the plane, the black-haired woman, luggage in hand walked out into the airport of Tulia, Texas. It was the year 1994 and it was the first time that Jacqueline had ever been to the United States. She felt scared and confused as she looked around the airport, taking in her surroundings. It’s so huge and very different compared to the buildings back in the Philippines.… She thought in her head as she started to walk towards where a line was. The line was simply just for immigration.
She handed her passport and papers over to the officer once she was at the front of the line. Once they had let her pass through the inspection, she looked around again only to see even more. The hospital finally gave me a sponsorship,” Jacqueline announced to her mother a huge smile on her face. “Congrats honey! We’ll miss you,” Her mother replied as her father walked into the room. “Did you hear? Jacqueline finally got the sponsorship,” Her mother asked her father. “Of course, I'm so proud of you,” Her father said with a smile, hugging the girl. Jacqueline’s mother included herself in the hug, and a few tears went down her cheek. “Stay safe alright? Also, remember we’re always with you,” She heard her mother add, a small smile on his face as he continued to hug Jacqueline. In the Philippines an earthquake hitting the island of Mindoro resulted in major damage throughout the island. The magnitude of the earthquake being 7.1. A shiver went down Jacqueline’s back as she thought about the disaster. “Of course I’ll stay safe,” Jacqueline muttered to herself, being snapped out of her thoughts. “Here’s to a new life,” She exclaimed and started to walk out of the airport and into the beautiful city of Tulia,
