Short Story About Thanksgiving
TEXTING WHILE DRIVING
As an everyday routine Abby wakes up like any other day. She turns off the alarm clock, then drags herself out of bed wishing it was already Saturday. She Jumps in the shower and rushes out because her clock was thirty minutes behind and they had called asking if Abby was coming in for work. As she says yes she on her way to the salon she has this really bad feeling in her stomach. Even though she doesn’t know what’s in plan for her today and tragedy that’s going to happen to her. Abby jumps in her car, hair still drenching wet and coffee in her hand as her phone starts to ring and vibrate constantly for all the appointments that she had scheduled with her clients yesterday. As she shouts “OK, I am on my way”, she takes off in a hurry turning at a stop sign, but forgets to make a complete stop and she tries to cut in front of this man and realizes she almost lost her life right there. Keep focus Abby as she whispers to herself, just go to work and then start the day. As Abby is driving down Main Street making a left turn on to the interstate a white jeep makes a stop in the middle of the interstate and the same lane as Abby’s. Abby tried to hurry up and make a complete stop before smashing in to the rear of the jeep, she finally stops and her phone flies toward the bottom of the floor. Struggling to grab it before she exits off the interstate and drive without crashing, she thinks she would make it on time before she gets to the yield sign; she grabs it with her fingertips.

Well, we missed the turn. We were now on the road to box with only one known place to turn around. By the time we realized this, we were at the water company. With the black truck right behind us, and getting further away from town, we knew we needed to turn around. The speed limit is 35 mph on that road. We were easily going 50 mph. We had to slow down for curves and bends in the road. We were yelling at Kaitlin telling her to drive faster. We turned down Culen Highbe’s road and sure enough, he followed us. We flipped around, and he turned around right behind us. We decided we needed to drive very fast and try to create some distance so we could get into Emili’s house. We were driving as fast as we could while still being safe. We pulled up to Emili’s house and ran as fast as we could inside. The truck turned down the same road. We had barely made it inside. It was like we were in a movie, paralyzed with…

Thanksgiving is considered by many as being the worse meal of the year. Why? Because of the extreme overload of high-starch carbs that trigger blood sugar spikes for so many people. Just think of it. Pumpkin pie with a scoop or two of ice cream, corn bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sugar-laden cranberry sauce and green bean casserole, that's why.…

Texting and driving is one of the most debated topics in society. Whether it affects all people or whether or not you’re just good at multi tasking. Yet, all people would come to the agreement that it is one the most dangerous activities to participate in and ends millions of lives yearly. "Drivers and Legislators Dismiss Cellphone Risks” published in New York Times by Matt Richtel and "LOL? Texting While Driving Is No Laughing Matter: Proposing a Coordinated Response to Curb this Dangerous Activity" by Alexis M. Farris are two articles that present variations of ethos, pathos, and logos and make identical arguments claiming that texting and driving is not only dangerous but is shaping the way Americans live. Both articles illustrate several accounts on the dangers of texting and driving and how the activity could potentially be stopped proving both articles to be well accounted for. While Matt Richtel and Alexis. M. Farris both reach the conclusion that texting while driving has a negative impact on people, Farris' article is far deeper and less biased then Richtel's who relies more on personal inference rather than factual evidence.…

Every day we witness multiple tragic accidents involving people texting and driving. In my paper I will be arguing that the state of Minnesota should act boldly to create tougher laws on texting and driving offenders, and also create laws to ban people from using hands-free cell phones in their vehicle unless needed for an emergency. Also it is to be determined the meaning of texting and driving, the people involved, the laws needed to enforce it, which is affected when someone is injured or killed; and what is being done about it.…

The number of people who have been affected by texting and driving is dramatically increasing. Clearly the laws, punishments, and education up to this point have not done much to change how people view texting and driving. Due to the facts that have been revealed about texting and driving, it is imperative that the government takes strong action to fight this rising epidemic. Although it may be near impossible to keep people off their phones, it is vital that stricter laws are put against it. Law enforcement, including police and the judicial system must put their foot down and stand by it. All ages must be targeted as well. Even though older people may think they are more experienced behind the wheel, accidents can happen and they should not be able to use their phones either. It should also no longer be a question whether it is a safe time to pick up the phone and send a quick text. The punishments must be toughened, forcing people to face harder consequences if caught texting while driving behind the wheel. License suspension would be a strong preventive in order for people to keep both hands on the wheel. On top of the new laws that should be put against texting while driving, drawing attention and focus to people who have suffered tragedies from texting and driving could be a key part to prevent more from happening. Making sure people are fully educated, enforcing stronger laws, and following through with stricter punishments are the first things that need to be done in order to keep people off their phones. Do you want the last thing you see before flying off the road to be “What r u doing? LOL”? There is nothing so important in a text message that cannot wait until later. Do not let any more young individuals lives be taken from texting and driving. Do something about…
