This report aims to show the views of those who think that animals should not be used for experimentation of new drugs and those who think that animals should be used for experimentation of new drugs.
2. THE ISSUE AND BACKGROUND TO THE DEBATE
Experiments done on animals i.e. non-human animals is said to be animal experimentation. The main reasons for animal experimentation are developing new drugs and studying of different diseases using animal as a model.
The tortures, the increase in the number of animal deaths per year and non-effectiveness of the drug invented created a dispute between people which resulted in different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to fight for animal rights.

Animal experimentation is a process which is just done to check whether the drug is safe and has no potential danger on human life. If the test done on animals yields a positive result then only it is tested on a small group of people in a special monitored place (BBC, 2014). But the main problem with animal experimentation is the torture and pain that is put on animals and these are the reasons why many NGO’s are fighting for it and trying to ban it. In UK, most animal used for testing are mice’s and according to European statistics about 1.87 million of them were used in the year of 2005 and the numbers increased to 2.95 million in the following year (About Animal Testing, 2014). The question now arises that if animal experimentation is banned will there be no new drugs discovered and be used for human use. The answer is no because of the introduction of new technologies like micro dosing and organs on a chip which replace animals in the process of testing new …show more content…
5.2.1 Testing on animals because of similarity in body structure to humans.
Animals are used in testing because animals share the same body structure and face same illnesses as humans face. This similarity made scientists use animals as a model for testing drugs. If the result obtained was safe then only it could be used by humans.
5.2.2 Drugs tested on animal give consumer a sense of satisfaction.
Consumer consume drugs that are tested on animals because they feel that the drug they are consuming is safe and they would not suffer from any side effects.
6. CONCLUSION
The report above has shown the views of different people on animal experimentation.
There are many benefits of using animals in testing but there are many drawbacks to it like the increase in the number of deaths of animals and also the pain and torture put on animals. New technologies like micro-dosing, in-vitro and organs-on-a-chip are replacing animals in testing because of the safety, accuracy, less time consumption, cheap and most important it is a painless procedure. To decide whether testing of drugs on animals should be continued or stopped more research and debates should be
