As described by doctors, antibiotics are powerful medicines that fight bacterial infections. Bacteria are widely spread throughout the globe and if used properly, can save lives. They either kill bacteria or keep them from reproducing. From there, this issue can be taken by your body’s natural defenses. Although these chemicals may seem very productive at times, they do more harm than good. Each time your body receives antibiotics; it increases the chances that bacteria in your body will be able to resist them. Later, you could get an infection that our body will be able to resist the antibiotic. This is the main reason that has got the general public worried. Should antibiotics be restricted to certain people only? When Penicillin was discovered in 1928, it was used …show more content…
in World War II and was like a miracle.
It rapidly vanished the biggest bacterium that infected wounds greatly. I my opinion, antibiotics should be restricted to certain people only.
Several benefits would come out of making antibiotics restricted to certain people only. The biggest problem of all would be solved. Due to the widespread and inappropriate use of antibiotics through the world, bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Making these restricted would prevent that. So, to prevent antibiotics resistance patients can do numerous things. To start off, they should take the antibiotics exactly as the doctor prescribes. Do not skip the doses and complete the course of the treatment even if you are starting to feel better, Patients should also only take antibiotics prescribed for them: do not share or use antibiotic leftovers. Each antibiotic treats an specific type of infection and taking the wrong medicine may delay correct treatment and allow the bacteria to
multiply. Another thing that would help is to not save antibiotics for the next illness. You should discard any leftover medication once your course treatment is complete. Do not ask for antibiotics when your doctor says you don’t need them. Last, taking antibiotics when they are not necessary may do more harm than good to your body. Which takes us to our second point: antibiotics have side effects. If the antibiotics are taken improperly it might result in some not so dangerous side effects. Some examples are diarrhea or small stomach aches such as nausea and these may turn into a serious allergy, although this is rare. Shortness of breath, hives, rash swelling of lips, face, or tongue, or fainting are signs of an allergic reaction. When you are prescribed an antibiotic it is recommended that you tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines or vitamins. Otherwise, the antibiotic’s interaction with the medicine will cause these reactions or reduce the effectiveness of one or the other.
Of course if antibiotics are restricted, there will be some negative reactions. People who always demand them will complain a lot. However, people who actually need them will have a better access to them. The government will have to take part during this process. For someone to receive an antibiotic they shall have to request it to the government or some sort of power that will have to be in charge. When requesting the antibiotic, the patient shall thoroughly describe why they need and the bacteria or illness they are facing. Some sort of analysis would be done to the request and the power in charge will decide if they really need the antibiotic or not. Otherwise this issue will keep going on forever.
