Canada is a land of immigrants, and it’s highly diverse culture is what makes it one of the top countries in the world to reside in. When a major portion of a population starts to follow a specific trend, millions of identities are affected. English is considered a common language throughout the world, but in some countries being able to speak English defines your status and where you stand within a society. In countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and China, some parents decide to never introduce their child to his native language and since a young age communicate in English with their kids. And studies show that these numbers can possibly go down. I believe Canada’s governments' efforts towards promoting Canadian content on the radio, internet, TV and other media platforms are going to affirm the identities of thousands of Canadians. A major problem with Americanization is, that minority groups start to speak English and give up their mother tongue, but if Canadian content is promoted and minority groups get represented on media platforms, the diversity within Canada would stay maintained. The government should promote Canadian content to the point where the diversity within Canada and identities of its citizens is not affected. I don't believe that the legislation should completely stop broadcasting American content, as that will lead towards isolation and less exposure for Canadians to the rest of the
