One reason why I would allow my son to play football is because it will build his character. “The game challenges and pushes us. It’s often uncomfortable. It requires us to be at our best” (Harbaugh, John). Football has players challenging themselves to see if they can handle it. “Kaisa Kinikini, a former gang member and now part of the Stand A Little Taller program aimed at keeping at-risk youth out of gangs, organized a football team consisting of many gang members. The so-called Gridiron Gang… Some of players were picked up by junior colleges to play football” (Reavy, Pat). Football helped give these people something to look forward to and instead of looking to the streets for something to do they played football. As a result, football allowed some of the players to attend junior college and receive an education that they otherwise wouldn’t have
