Should Juveniles Be Tried As Adults Essay
There are many laws that specifically prohibit teen and adolescent under the age of 18 from doing many things and are there to “protect” us. There is always a punishment when they are broken. The same should apply, if a juvenile is to commit a heinous crime like homicide or first-degree murder, they should be tried and sentenced for the crime. Therefore, I do agree that juveniles should be tried as an adult when they commit the same crimes as that of an adult. When it comes to charging juveniles as adults, it always start a controversial argument. Many people say that juvenile shouldn’t be charged as adults because “they are just kids” or “they didn’t know that their actions had consequences” which I do not believe. In a recent court case that involved two girls Morgan Geyser who is 12 and …show more content…
That shows that can’t function properly in society because they are a menace and danger to others. A crime is a crime and it doesn’t matter did it they should be face the time in prison they deserve. No one has the right to play god at any age, because kids are taught at an early age that killing someone is wrong and no one has the right to take someone else's life. It will also help better the society we live in because you are placing a danger and rehabilitating in a separate place. Juveniles should not be let off easy because it increase that chances of it occurring again because they did not receive the punishment. The consequences of a juvenile's action should not be determined by race, ethnicity, gender and color of skin as well as economic status. We shouldn’t their enablers, we should let know and experience that every single action has it’s consequence. If teens can plan a murder confess it and not feel any remorse they should also be given the proper punishment and face time in prison. I do not think it is wrong, I believe that it is just to trial a juvenile as an

Many people around the nation have different views on the subject of juvenile justice. Some believe that despite the children's age, they should still be tried as an adult if a serious crime is committed. On the other hand, some believe children should not be tried as adult even if they commit a rather serious crime. I firmly that these children should not be sentenced to life in prison despite the serious crime that they have committed and should have another shot at life when their brain is fully developed.…

I think that juveniles should be charged as adults if an adult crime is committed. In the constitution it states that it’s not appropriate for a child under 16 to receive capital punishment; which I agree with completely. I think that things that can be handled efficiently for that age group. Something realistic would be serving in a juvenile facility until turning 18 and then deciding what to do then. In some cases the charges are dropped and they are released from custody. If the child understands that what was done was wrong and can be held responsible, than they should be charged like an adult would.…

Juvenile criminals, conscious adults or underdeveloped children? When you're dealing with children who committed a crime such as murder, it is hard to judge if whether they should be tried as an adult or as a child. I think that juveniles should be tried as adults because if children brain development was the reason they kill others, then they teens would kill at around the same rate around the world.…

Juvenile receives crucial punishment, how could you give a twelve year old sentenced to life without possibility of parolo. Now that is just heartless to do something like that to a juvenile. The reason for juvenile being tried as adult is what happened in the 80s and 90s, many juvenile were in gangs and causing tremendous crime making the crime rate raise for the younger generation.…

There has always been and ongoing debate on whether or not juveniles should be treated the same as adults when it comes to committing crime. Some people feel that they should be treated the same, some feel that they shouldn’t and then there are those that feel that it depends on the crime. Juvenile crime is on the rise at an alarming rate and some feel that there is a lack of remorse on the part of the juveniles because they know that they will only serve a minimum sentence. In New York State the age for a juvenile to be charged as an adult is sixteen some people feel that this is too young to be tried as an adult and others feel that it is not because at this age the difference between…

In Kentucky, and in many other states as well, after the age of 18 you are considered an adult. This is the level of majority. If someone were to commit a crime at this age or older they would be tried as an adult. Children under the age of 18 cannot be sentenced to death or to life without possibility of parole. This is because children are physically incapable of making mature, responsible, well processed decisions. Opinions from one person to the next differ as there are several reasons concerning juveniles how they should be treated and tried in criminal cases (Southerland). The issue may be more of a debate as some people would say that kids do not have enough reasoning and lack common sense. Others, on the other hand, would say that juveniles have plenty of brains and common sense. There are strong reasons as to why juveniles should not be tried as adults and should not be eligible for life without parole.…

In the United States, anyone who is charged for committing a crime before the day of their 18th birthday is considered a juvenile and depending on the severity of the case shall be tried as a juvenile. There are some cases; however, where the juvenile justice system should be harder on the juvenile, but in most cases they should not go to an adult prison. There are most certainly some cases in which the juvenile should face the adult justice system, but for petty instances, a juvenile court will suffice. I find it hard to agree that a juvenile convicted for crimes dealing with drugs, alcohol, traffic violations, etc. should be tried in an adult court to receive punishment; however, I do believe that someone who commits rape, murder, kidnapping, or any other major crimes of the sort should be taken to an adult court. “Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time,” is a quote I remember hearing as I was growing up, but I was not taught that it applied to small or minor crimes, but often serious ones involving the harming of another individual. Placing juveniles in adult prisons can cause them to be put in danger, when in reality many of them can be “fixed”…

I don’t think there is one juvenile living that is ready to be in a prison environment, it’s not anything that you can train for and I am also concerned about if the juvenile will receive the proper medical and mental health services. But for a juvenile to be on death row is very disturbing. Juveniles are young and juveniles haven’t gotten a chance to explore and actually live their life so this is a sad scenario. I don’t think there is any crime even a homicide or armed robbery is worth putting a juvenile on death row. The judge should have some sympathy and issue out a split sentence before even considering death row for a juvenile. The famous quote “if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime” is very serious but I think the system should be lenient and have some sympathy for…

Minors should not be tried as adults when convicting a crime because they have not experienced the adult world yet, and they technically don’t know what they are getting themselves into at that age, and state of mind. But they should, however be sentenced to a strict probationary system and do community service to understand what they have done was wrong.…

The question is, should teens who murder be tried as adults? I would have to say yes. If one can understand what murder is, he or she should also understand that it’s wrong. Everyday a grown person or a teenager is being arrested for murder. If one is big enough to do the crime, than he or she can do the time. It’s not about being old enough to understand because at the age of 14 or 15 years old one has learned the difference in right and wrong; therefore, one knows the action is wrong and should take the consequences for the wrong they committed just like any other person should. It wouldn’t be fair if say a 30 year old man gets arrested for rape and takes it on upon himself to stab his victim to death and gets life in prison, but then a 15 year old kid who knows what he is doing as well gets arrested for the same crime and gets away with it. It wouldn’t be fair because, not only did that 15 year old get away with murder because of his age, but that family has to sit there in grief and pain knowing that this 15 year old just got away with murder; this kid could also thinking its ok to do it again because I’m just a kid, but that 15 year old kid is about to go attack another person.…

In the 1700’s there was no distinguish in the law between juveniles and adults. However, there is now a ongoing debate on whether or not 16 years should be charged as adults in the court of law. I am confident in my opinion that they should at the age of 16 years be charged as adults. They have to be able to take responsibility for their actions. Also, 16 year olds should be able to make their own decisions.…

Due to sudden increase in youth crime rate in 90’s, many states started to put juveniles to the adult court believing that this could bring down the crime rate. Some studies showed that starting to put youth in adult prisons helped the crime rate go down, but had no effect on violent crime rate. Many voices came up for easing the law for juveniles to not to be sentenced as adults due to decrease in youth crime rate from 2000. On the other hand, some people say that sentencing juvenile criminals as adults can make citizens feel safe from those criminals. I believe that the people under eighteen years old should never be tried and sentenced as adults, because not like the adults’ brains which are known to be fully developed, juveniles’ brain…
